I know that gravely made post hole diggers back in the day, does anyone make them for today's walk behinds?

Digging post holes with a Gravely just isn't possible. Of course that depends on how a post hole is defined. If it is defined as a hole 6-8 in diameter, 2-4 ft deep, then the Gravely won't do it. Period. Just rent a two man post hole digger. Now if you want to plant some shrubs, then that is a different matter.

I am looking at 1 foot deep, only about 4 inch diameter

Why not make your self a small digger with a hyd motor and a cut down auger, and put a hyd pump on the engine if possible. Those hyd motors have the torque through out the rpm range of the motor.

I used a small gas portable drill, with a spade bit the size of a one gal pot, and dug many hundreds of holes. About 10 sec per hole .

Maybe something like this.

Great idea. Thanks.

Where can I get a hydraulic auger head cheap for this project?

I am hoping to reduce the amount of engines I have... but I am leaning that way
