Any Opinions on Mini Trucks?

For commuter traffic i'd get a Jetta TDI.... They have as much room in the trunk as the minitruck has in the bed...

I've polled a couple of local guys who have driven these. The consensus is that at speeds I'd be traveling, I'd likely get a miles per gallon in the mid 20's. That's not worth it to me.

Also, you may be able to find one of those old VW Rabbit pickups rom the 80's with a diesel and get great fuel economy, still have the bed, and a fairly reliable vehicle that is built for the road and commuting. Even the gas version (I believe there was one) should do decent on fuel intake. Could easily pick up a good running one for the same price or much less than a mini truck.

Also, those diesel Isuzu pickups from the same time frame would be a good choice. Some were available with 4x4 I believe.

Those little trucks don't come up for sale around here. They are very popular with the larger farms. They put their hired help in them for running around and irrigating, checking fields, etc. I was at an auction a year or so ago, and those little compact pickups were selling for more than full sized trucks whether they ran or not.
