Fuel Consumption GPH

My 45 hp Massey has a 3 cylinder Perkins in it. The most common thing I do is mow with a 7 ft. finish mower at 2,000 rpm this is a light load. I've never really checked it but I would guess it's burning 1.5 gph, maybe a little more. I know that a 5 gallon jug can keep me in the seat for quite a while.

The New Holland TC-29 uses about 3/4 GPH using the backhoe at about 2000 RPM. The engine is not working very hard.

Back in the day when I was still in the business the design criteria was 1/2 pound of fuel per horsepower hour. Kind of like outboard motors where fuel consumption in GPH at WOT = rated HP X 10%. Rule of thumb to get you into the ball park.

the last time I paid any attention to it was about a half gal an hour, maybe a little less.
I really do not mind a little more fuel use, keeps me filling her full of fresh fuel that way

My JD2520 seems to burn 1/2 to 3/4 GPM depending on how hard I am working it.

My L3400 (35 HP) burns on average 1 gallon per hour brush cutting, most of my use is less load which = less fuel burned.

My BX2230 (22HP) has gone through less than 7 gallons since I got it the end of August and I've put 23 hours on it. 1/3 of that time mowing, 1/3 of it on fairly heavy loader work. Hmmm, must be almost a 1/3 of it joy riding too.

Been a lot of rs since I've done any real work with a tractor. Back when, had a MF165D, Perkinds diesel, and it spent its life making hay, working it hard. Seem to recall I'd have a hard time running more then 10gal in a full days work.

Don't keep close track on the Yanmar and it doesn't get worked very hard. Guesstimating it burns .5-.7 gals hr.

In that time I've consumed ~13 gallons over 26 hrs.

Just wondering if 2 GPH for my little NH is typical for a 4 cyl non turbo diesel under these conditions or if other owner/operators out there have similar observations to share. At ~$8 per hour to operate, that's not all that bad,...right?

You're burning 0.5gal/hr, not 2/hr. Sounds about right - my L4200 use is similar.

depends a lot on load too, I burn a lot more fuel baleing hay then tedding running about the same RPM but under a lot more load. Tractors are governed, more power required means more fuel to maintain RPM's.
