the village ( and I do mean VILLAGE ! ) his wife lived in has an old WW2 diesel generator that they start up once a day to pump water from a well. wheile he was down visiting the 'family' he helped them build a watr tower at their house.. about 400g stock tank and some 25' posts ( tree trunk shaped :) ) and made a perched water table.. ran the 'hose' up to the top, and the pipe from the tank down to the house.. they now let it fill whenthe genny runs, and then have running water the rest of the day.

stuff we take for granted...

none of the other houses in the village have water when the genny is off.

ie.. genny on, pump runs, and pipes go to each house. you got water while pump is on.

my friend showed his inlaws how to perch a water table.. apparrently something not previously known in that area :(

so.. no.. not the way we do it in south florida. where a centralized distribution point feeds people on municipal water from a mass storage tower.

no individual towers at peoples houses..

perched water table../QUOTE]

There might be a little difference between a "Perched Water Table" and an elevated tank.:)

I have to 100% agree with that! The sad truth of the way things are with today's products & not just tractors. And the other sad part is that most companies don't want to back their products which leaves the consumer stuck with the bill. Things have really changed since the days of old. :(

Makes ya wonder why foreign companies tend to make such an impact. When you loose customer trust in your products, you are lucky to get them back.

I am steadfast on this, and unfortuately, I have not purchased an american truck, or car in over 20 years.

I think the new tractors will last on average 22-25 years and then they will be scrapped due to not being able to get the parts.

There are so many variations of new tractors it will be very expensive for the manufacturers to keep parts...and many modern tractors ar eonly made for a few years then dropped.

This was not so much a problem with tractors out of the 40-60's. A Ford 9n, 2n,8n was made for nearly 23 years without much difference between models.

My TC45A was only made for 3 years and you do not see many out there.

I plan on keeping mine forever and every so often I buy some extra parts-mostly electrical stuff-relays and senors that I may need one day. If I don't use them one day someone will buy them from me I'm sure

I am going to undercoat my l4740 two or 3 times a year with fluid film and UDT That should keep it from rusting. I blow snow in the winter and here in eastern Canada salt is use extensively.

I wonder is there any bad side effects from undercoating like eating at seals and rubber stuff?

My dealer told me that Kubota will find him a part for any tractor they have sold, no matter how long ago. You may have to pay a lot, but they will supply the parts. But Kubota makes all their own stuff - No Kubota's made by LS or Yanmar or ? If you buy a tractor made by the low bidder on contract, you shouldn't expect much support.

It will eat natural rubber but synthetic rubber and plastic is OK. I doubt if any natural rubber is used anywhere on modern tractors.

I have some electrical equipment made in the late 70s that still works just fine. If it dies we will probably replace it but there are plenty of companies that you can send electrical parts to who will repair them for you. 40 years from now you may not be able to buy a new replacement part but that hardly means that the part can't be made by a machine shop or repaired.

Our biggest problem is we've become a throw away society. If something doesn't work change parts until it does.

reminds me of a friend who was a mechanic in the army.. served in iraq .. was a tank mechanic. he called himself a profesional parts changer.. :)

I agree.. just because a part isn't made.. doesn't mean that it can't be re-made.

might not be economical..but can be done..e tc..

hmm, i really doubt that. No other manufacturer .... ever.... has been able to make any part for their equipment forever...... i really dont see that ever happening.

grsthegreat: I see you own a Kioti:). One has to always justify their purchase and often times it by saying "Their both the same, why pay more for one over the other one, not me".:D
Well, Kubota has a well earned reputation that's more than an engine, transmission and 4 or more wheels. That's why the Kubota cost a little more than that Kioti.:)
One big reason many people don't buy Kioti and Chinese motor scooters is PARTS or the lack thereof. If Kubota says they'll "get the part" (not make the part) then I believe they'll get the part.
My BIL is a machinist and makes parts in Somerset, Ky for English cars. People order from him from all around the world. Maybe he'll make obscure parts for Kubota if they can't find them some where else. Electronic parts can also be made special order some where by some one.
I believe these Kubotas will be running until JESUS COMES and after that I won't care.:D
MERRY CHRISTMAS.....JESUS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON!!!!!

My 09 L3400 is rusting in the same place GlennaR's is, on the right side rear fender seam. I've tried repainting the seam and spraying it with Fluid Film and Rust Check, we'll see if gets worse. I suspect it will, I doubt there's any paint between the seam joints.
Sean

After you posted this the other day it left me wanting to go check on my Bota. Been busy all week with work and yesterday Church volunteer offering. Just checked mine no rust(2007). I have not read all post with fine tooth comb but often wondered to myself what percentage of rust on equipment/cars etc comes from ocean spray if transported un-covered. Even though final assembly here on US soil in some cases.

well whatever.. i still remember when i was in college (80's) era and NO ONE touched the Kubota brand. They were constantly blowing head gaskets, etc. Parts were near impossible to find, etc.

My how time changes opinions

oh... heres a good side post to the above

This is ridiculous - No alternators in the US!!! - Page 2 - TractorByNet.com

I'm sorry but that's just a plain stupid statement. If nobody would touch them then they wouldn't have sold yet I see B1700 tractors for sale all the time. Around me I see more 1980s Kubotas for sale than I do of any year Kioti but I would be stupid if I made the blanket statement "NO ONE will touch a Kioti". Besides if nobody touched them in the 80s then they wouldn't have lasted into the 90s and beyond.
