John Deere 110 vs Kubota M59

I saw earlier where you were saying you would go with a 14k trailer if doing it over but do you feel you can balance the 110 like you need to on the 20'? With the hoe and front bucket attached?

Balancing the 110 on the 12k 20ft is easy, there is enough room to move fore and aft. The reason I would go with a 14k trailer is to carry additional implements. My boxblade, forks and rock bucket add more than a ton.

I pull my M59 with bucket and hoe on a 20' 14K PJ bumper pull and it's not hard to balance it. There seems to be plenty of play in the middle to get it to sit right. I think you could probably do it on an 18', however adding some attachments would be tough with an 18 I think.

Thank you both!

I'm still trying to gather some cash but as I hear you guys talk some implements I should be looking at is a box blade and a grapple. I was wondering how much those were and how much more they would set me back? Also which should I look at? I was looking through the Deere website at box blades and saw the BB33. Thought it was kind of cool how the sacrificer is raised and lowered hydraulically but how much would I be paying for that little convenience. Also I've been searching and haven't found much on the different types of grapples and how much would they cost? This is all down the road a little ways but just looking for some ideas on pricing

Here are a couple of pics of the Frontier BB1284 which I purchased with the 110 the hitch on the 4520 is the same as the 110 and will show what the topntilt looks like. This boxblade is 1250 lbs with hydraulic scarifiers and will hold over 30 cu ft of dirt. Forum members have found similar used boxblades for much less than the cost of a new one, I would try to find one used in good shape. This is made by Woods Gannon industrial for Frontier.

Thanks, JD was just the first website I checked. From what I understand the BB3384 is the newer model of the BB1284. Is that right? Should I be looking at Frontier or what brand would you recommend? Just looking at some new/used prices on the internet those are really pricey! Obviously I'm not using mine like yours as my job and just doing a little work here and there for myself. I guess after realizing the price I'm ok with getting off my lazy @$$ and putting the sacrificer up and down. I guess I would be looking for something with enough weight for a good a ballast but not breaking the bank either. I really don't need a $5k box blade. Just something that has enough weight and don't really need the hydraulic for that much. I guess something similar to yours without the hydraulics for a lot less. Is that just wishful thinking? I'm really stretching even thinking about this 110 and to spend another $5k on a box blade isn't going to happen.

I've been looking at a bunch - mainly a King Kutter from Everything Attachments. I just saw this one:
King Kutter Professional Hinged Back Tractor Box Blade

It is the most heavy duty he sells but it is half the weight of your box blade so I was wondering how much do you think would be an appropriate ballast. I would assume I would have the BH on when I'm doing serious loader work but still need a safe ballast as you would know. Would 550lb be enough? What would you consider the minimum? Also looked at the Frontier BB3284 but that is still more than I really want to pay although it is much more industrial - I guess you get what you pay for though.

The owner's manual for the 110 stipulates that a minimum of 1,250lbs is recommended for rear ballast when the backhoe is removed.

Wow. Is there any that are a little heavier you know of? I'm not going to pay 5k for a box blade. I was thinking the hydraulic one would be at most $2k. And the frontier BB3284 is that much.

I would keep a look out for a good used boxblade similar to the one shown. The newer model is likely quick hitch compatible, nice but not worth buying new for the money you mention. There was a post by someone on here awhile back who found a used boxblade similar to mine for around $1000 as I remember. If you can find one that needs wire brushing and painting but doesn't have any welding repairs, cracks or bends that is what I recommend. These were and are very commonly used for the 210 landscape loaders and can be found with a little searching.

I should add that you won't need the boxblade right out of the gate so I would take my time finding one at a good price. Just make sure you get the full hydraulic functions on the 110.
