Price Check Overpriced Tractor?

   / Overpriced Tractor? #21
It does appear that the quote the OP got was list price.... I would like to know the name of the dealer so I can learn how to sell at list price too ;-). If the KIOTI LIST price is 1500 less than the smaller JD there should be no reason not to go Kioti! Bythe way, tractors are probably up 10 to 15% over the last 4 years and about to go up a bunch more as tier IV epa muddy's the water (but I suppose clears the air?).

One of the biggest things that bother me is resale value. I went used shopping and a lot of these makers are losing 10 grand in value at less than 200 hours. So say what you want about overpriced Deere they do hold their value.

As others have noted, a gear DK40se without loader probably sold for $15K+/- . However the big factor influencing depreciation these days is not tractor color so much as the zero percent interest loans made available on new tractors. Why tie up $13K of your cash for a two year old used tractor when a manufacturer will arrange for a new $15K machine with full warranty etc that you can pay off for $400/month interest free?

I sold a few DK40SEs in 2009 at around $16,000 not including the loader, this would have been after incentives. so the used one at 12,900 is at a little better than 80% of its original cost. the low hours make it a bargain compared to a new one, but IMHO 80% is a good value retention for any brand. I couldn't run the serial number to cofirm where it was sold new as it is missing a the letter that tells what the year of manufacture and the number itself is one digit short

So you have a, give or take a bit, a $15,000 - $16,000.+ or - tractor new that they are asking $12,900 for. To me that's a far CRY from being $10,000. cheaper. I also see it is a manual transmission, that also affects the price of it. HST trans is usually more. Before I bought my first and only tractor I spent about 6 months looking at different tractors used and then new. Very happy with what I bought (new CK35 HST) and how much for. Just saying. :)

Sir, I am not badmouthing you. I like this brand I like the weight and features:thumbsup:. If I good get a REAL price it will be this or a Massey 1643. Who knows. Maybe wait till spring?? What you think??

As I have been somewhat in your shoes I bought the tractor I felt was the best bang for the buck, 4 year warranty and would meet my application for use. I do feel, whether it is a tractor, car or what have, if you buy the "right" one then price, warranty, resale value, while important, do become a little less important . Just so you know I did visit both Kubota and JD dealers several times, after that I paid a visit to a Kioti dealer and took a CK30 HST for a 5 minute test run, I knew I had found my tractor. Found the weight, finish, placement of controls, superior in my mind at least, to some of the other tractors I had looked at. I also ended up ordering my tractor and backhoe from a dealer in Oregon and imported it myself to Canada, have never seen the dealer, all done by e-mail and phone. Did have a small problem with the Woods backhoe and 2 minor issues with the Kioti in the past 3 1/2 year and he was able to look after me promptly and professionally. Whatever brand you look at not all dealers are the same, gave my local Kioti dealer 3 chances to do business with me and it didn't work out.
Good luck with what ever tractor you end up getting. :) :)

In my humble and admittedly biased opinion the DK40SE HST with KL401 should be priced higher than the JD3720 and 300CX. Other than HP the 3720 is closer in specs to a cK series tractor than the DK40SE. The DK40SE is about 1000lbs heavier, (even has a steel hood) and the loader can lift over 1000lbs more. these are not really apples to apples.
Don't forget about the skid steer style QA on the Kioti loader, the hydraulic rear remotes, draft control, extendable lower link arms, and telescoping sway bars on the 3 point hitch are all standard features on the Kioti DK's.
Must have items on a tractor in my opinion..
These items are a lot of extra $$$ optional equipment on the Deere.

DKVince is right....

Telescoping 3pt hitch arms - $311
Hydraulics to the rear - $303
71" materials bucket - $834 (to be apples to apples)
Quick Attach for FEL - $536

Total............................. $1,984.00 ($1,150 if you don't count the bucket)

The JD still can't lift what the Kioti can.....you'll need to go to the 4020 series to start getting close to the 401FEL specs.

Another thing about the used tractor scenario that would highlighted here....what do you know about it? Was it a trade in or was it a repo? If it was a repo, that could affect the price in that some lenders will sell it for what is owed vs retail price....I ran into this a couple of times when I was looking in 2009 & early 2010.

Not trying to be difficult here and I do understand buying w/ seeing it. I simply don't understand a dealer going with list price when they know they have competition? The 10-15% off is what you should be getting and hearing unless they are selling the snot out their inventory and customers are knocking down their doors....

The 4yr warranty is important too. Or at least I thought so since this was my first tractor.

Hope to read about you joining the Pack! Don't forget the pictures of your bundle of joy when she arrives at that house!!!:D

Well, I just got quotes for trading in my CK 30 with Woods BH-70x for a DK 45 Cab with Woods BH-80x. I didn't get the actual selling price from my dealer because my trade was involved and he only gave me the final price difference, but here's the beginning of his email with the list price.

"...with regards to dk45/50 DK45sehstc with kl401 loader and woods bh80x with mech thumb total package is retail $45,937.00. Kioti program is $4000.cash in lieu of low rate finance..."

So $45,937 - $8000 for the cab and the $4000 Kioti program would be about $33,937 + tax. The Woods BH is a little more money than the Kioti BH BUT, this is a DK 45 instead of a DK40, so those are probably close to a wash. I guess it wouldn't be a bad deal here in Ontario where tax is 13%, but I know a lot of you aren't hit that hard by the tax man, so it might not be a great deal if tax is only 5%

Not really an apples to apples comparison, but it's as close as I've ever come to pricing out what you're looking at.
