When you say "a lot" are you meaning that the tractor smokes for quite a while after starting or just a puff when it first fires? My
B3300 gives a puff of black sooty exhaust when it first fires but quickly clears (however, cold for my area is temps in the low 40s). It's almost like it just clears it's throat then runs normal. I think that is pretty normal for most diesels especially when temps are cold.
However, if it smokes for a while after starting, there was some discussion about fuel pump timing or some other cause to that. There was even a Youtube video about it.
