Well I finally got around to getting a few pics of grapple in action.
What I've been doing is cutting 4 or 5 trees limbing them out and topping them off, then grabbing them and skidding them out to field, dropping them and spinning around and picking them up with fel and setting them down on skids to cut to length. Once cut pick'em back up and move to pile.
Been working well so far, now that I have a system worked out.

That is nice. My whole theory of firewood production revolves around not having to touch the wood unless I have to. My theory of tractor operation is to not get off the tractor unless you have to.

I agree with everything you say. It would help greatly if manufacturers put an automatic sandwich maker on their tractors.

Nice unit. It will save a lot of time not having to get on and off the tractor. I like that the grapple pivots so you can adjust for grabbing the tree from any angle.

Agreed! Lots of my firewood requires winching, so I have to get off for that.
Mrold - what are you burning there - looks like pulpwood? Is this for an OWF? Nice to have a flat field where you can yard logs. Good build.

Nice job. Any problem with the empty grapple flopping around when driving over rough ground? I know my post hole digger is a pain when doing that.

In the pic of the grapple holding the logs, is that showing how far it closes with the logs in place? Doe the logs stay in there like that? I've never done this, but I assumed that the skidder grapple had to close tight around the logs for it to hold them while dragging them, but it doesn't look like it in your pics.

Where are the stumps? Are you felling the trees with a chain saw and doing something with the logs? What are you doing with the logs?
