Have Question About Attached Picture Of Parts For My 47" JD Snowblower

Not quite OT, I hope... I'm still wondering about the drift cutters for the 47" blower. New 1026R came with just the one on the right installed, as specified in the manual for the SCUTs and smaller CUTs. Neither factory nor dealer was able to comment on whether this is a machine limitation, where adding the other cutter would create warranty or performance issues - or whether JD is just saving a couple of bucks. I'd like to have the second cutter partly for managing deep snow, but also for tracking in tight quarters where valuable plants could be damaged if I'm a couple of inches off course.

Anyone have info on this?

IO have a 47" with 2 drift cutters on for many many years. They don't do anything other than cut higher drifts. If you snag a mailbox or a tree or something they will just bend but the snow-blower is rugged enough where it's not going to hurt anything.
They maybe only put one on but two won't hurt anything. Who knows, maybe one vibrated off :laughing:

Thanks for this info, DD - guess I'll buy a second if they're cheap, or make one myself. Got some *very* narrow paths to clear.

beenthere, here are some pictures of the SB w/o the plates.

Your pics show how thin the end plates are on the blower. You definitely need to put on the heavier plates to beef up your blower. I have them in my 47" blower and if I had another set lying around I would bolt those on also because the front lower corners really take some serious shocks when I hit a slope or edge on a curb.
