Realworld mpg's: I have a 2011 f350 with the 6.7. CC, 4x4, lariat loaded. gets 17 all day long. some days up to 19, but normal is 17.

This is illinois mileage, but it has been as far west as missoula and as far east as virginia

This is where I'm at with my 11' F-250. I have been as high as 22 mpg on longer highway trips w/ no load.

Nice truck, one thing I will recommend to you, and to anyone running a newer commonrail diesel engine is: More/better fuel filtration. The best fuel filtration is absolutely critical on HPCR diesel engines with fuel pressures approaching 30,000psi, if you want your injectors and pumps to last. I'm not really familiar with specifics of the the Scorpion as far as the stock filtration, but I have read quite a few HPFP disintegration stories due to 'less-than-perfect' fuel, leading to $10k+ repair bills that Ford will not cover under warranty. You probably should be running a 2 micron fuel filter and a fuel/water separator in addition to the stock filtration. This won't have any effect on your warranty, especially if you put the filters on the frame rail between the tank and engine. Good luck, hope you enjoy it.

I agree. I drain my stock water separator on a regular basis and have yet to see any water in the system. I let the drained fuel sit in a glass jar for days checking for any separation. Many owner's are now adding a diesel additive to increase fuel lubrication in fear of HPFP failures.

Like I mentioned along with Dmace, the forums on FTE will haunt you. I'm a member over there, good bunch of members but I can't read over there to much. Makes me depressed of all the issues being posted. Very, very few catastrophic failures but non the less, issues that take the truck off the road.

Glad to see some honest opinions. I would love to hear real world mpg's once it's broken in.
Also, you may not want to read the Ford truck enthusiasts website. The problems related to these diesels will haunt you...
I see from this picture the tear drop steering wheel. Doesn't look to bad but it probably feels completely different in person.

Its not the overall shape of the wheel, that is round as you can see in the photo, I'm talking about a cross-section of the RIM, the part of the wheel where you place your hands, that is not round. You can't see the profile in the photo above that I am talking about. The side of the rim that faces away from you feels like if comes to a sharp edge or point, but not that pronounced of a corner. If you can picture the rim profile as a pear or teardrop shape with the rounded end facing the driver that is what I mean.

Like I said when I opened this thread most of my gripes at this point are cosmetic stuff and creature comfort things that don't feel as comfortable as they could or the reasoning behind making them the way they are escapes me.

The power points is an example. My 05 F-150 had the same thing...those covers for the power points that are hinged and you open them up to access the old cigar lighter style plug. Since most vehicles haven't included an ash tray in 5 years why do we still have a 12V power port that utilizes this outdated form factor? Why not offer something more universal or should I say up to date. The Cigar lighter is universal yes only because there has never been a reason to change it. But now a days it would seem that there are many options that would be more in line with todays electronic devices. Why not have two or three USB style power only ports at various locations in the vehicle? Just filtered 5v DC power no data communications. Yes the Ford Sync equipped vehicles have one USB style port that can be used to charge a device. Its also used to connect you iPad or other device, so if you have your iPad plugged in so you can access music then you can't use it to perform a charge only function on another device.

But back to what we have now. I'd like to be able to remove those hinged doors or whatever you want to call them from the cigar lighter style power ports and not have them in my way. I could do that now yes but I won't be able to replace it as they are not made to be removable.

So this gripe is bigger than just the Ford Super Duty line of trucks, its every vehicle on the road today.

You don't want the standard 12v socket on your truck? Its taken 25 years to get more than 1 of the things on a vehicle, I say don't mess with it.

You guys will not believe it but I will post it anyway. The truck we used, a 2012 F-250, got nearly 15 mpg pulling a 15,000# boat 800 miles. This was throughout the hills of Kentucky and Tennessee and also through Southern Indiana and Ohio.

He reports 18 mpg tank to tank and low 20's on the highway. Take it for what its worth but remember pulling a big boat is totally different than pulling a 5th wheel camper or enclosed trailer, much more aerodynamic.

You can see it here in a couple of the pics along with some of the other crew and my Titan pulling 10,100# per the scales and did 9.2 mpg on this trip in early fall 2011

Can I ask a silly question? Why put all that load on a 1/2 ton when you have a diesel in your driveway that would handle that load much better? I'm not being sarcastic, just curious. Usually, when I exceed 8500 lbs, I prefer to be in a larger truck. Its not that I doubt the power capabilities of the 1/2 ton, there is just no room to spare. As for the 2012 6.7 diesel, we have a F350 6.7 at work (2011) with 68,000 miles. It has 1000 lbs of tools, 4x4 crew cab xl automatic. We see 16-17 mpg, mostly highway. It has been in the shop 3 times, one check engine light and two oil leaks, one coming from a turbo seal and the other from filter housing.

The F-350 is just not needed in my opinion. I dont get it out till the loads get bigger than this. Its also a 06 and I am trying to keep the miles off it. I want it to last. I also like the Titan for driving, not that the F-350 is not nice also. But as you see, where we go lots of times there is some serious grades and the lake was down 70' so you are on gravel sometimes and the diff lockers on the Titan are nice.

That is what sold me on the Titan. We went in a big group a few years back and not a single one of us could get up the ramp. I had my F-350 and we also had a Suburban, F-150, Dmax, Suburban, Diesel Suburban, GMC 1500, Escalade, ect. A guy in a Titan walked right out with 10,000# behind it.

On this trip there were about 40 of us that went, maybe 16 boats or so. There were only 3 diesels. The F-250 I talked about, a older F-250 7.3 pictured, and the Dmax sitting next to me. We all use 1/2 tons for loads like this all the time.

I see. It just had me curious. I noticed the pic of the narrow road with the steep incline/decline. How do the 1/2 tons do stopping that load vs the 3/4 or 1 tons? It seems they would be "pushed" a little more. Where I tow, it is mostly flat with some gentle hills, nothing steep by any means. The furthest I have been from home is Atlanta with a trailer.
