Gentlemen
I am an electrician and the other day we rented a 85 foot lift to work on some difficult to access fan motors. When the work was done was completed I took the platform topside and took some pics to give you the birdseye view.
I do hold a valid licence to operate this machine and worn a fall arrest harness .I hope the pictures are going to scale out correct

I have used a JLG lift at work to get to the tip of the tail on a Boeing 777 at about 60 feet high and am not real happy there. Your 85 feet looks much worse.

I helped build the air traffic control tower in SLC years ago. Spent a week repairing a break on a concrete panel about 290' up on the exterior of the building from a swing stage. Did just fine the whole week finally spooked the last day. Haven't gotten above 20' off the ground since. Hats off to ya. :)7

I rented a similar lift at work a couple of years ago, it was quite the experience being 5 stories up on the end of that boom, especially how much the thing would sway and bob as one moved around.
Curious about the license comment- the rental place said nothing to us nor gave any instruction..it just showed up on a flatbed and was dumped for our use, we were on our own to figure it out:cool:
I was also surprised how much the thing weighed, I suppose to keep it from turning over. We had it for a 24 hour period and only used it for maybe 2 hours, I was contemplating taking it home on my car trailer to do some maintenance on my amateur radio tower, until I read the data plate and it was like 20,000 lbs!

Just to put things in perspective. . . This video is reported to be coming down soon, so check it out quickly.

Tower Climbing video on YouTube

EDIT:The video has now been removed by YouTube as expected. Here is a link to a blog explaining what happened and why the video came down. Scroll down the page and read the whole blog for "the rest of the story." There is one good still picture at the blog site.

Stupid question - How does one get this type of equipment to sites? Are they hitched? Can they be? Or do they need a trailor?

They have to be transported on a trailer. I had to drive a 100' JLG manlift down the street to another job site once. Did just fine till I had to turn a corner that gets a little tricky. :)7

Sheesh and I'm still working on a 3' tall 20' ladder for people who afraid of heights.

As an apprentice I usta spend a lot of time at both the top and bottom of a 65' ladder truck down at the CNE.
Now a 10' manlift with safety rails, belts etc, makes me far more nervous than having my wife hoist me in the tractor bucket to do the gutters....

I also drove the 85 ' out of one gate and down a quiet public road and back in the other gate. No one has any idea about driving until you put the controls in CRAB steering.
And the best part to mess up your mind is to drive with reversed arrows.

That statement should get the untrained thinking that they want CRAB Steering.
