I live in the land of New England - home of free rock...

I am always trying to remove some 100-300 pound rock that makes its way to surface....I am still learning to use my FEL but am wondering if a tooth bar is the way to go. Haveing difficulty getting the bucket edge under the rock to pop it. Will a tooth bar help in solving this?

If so - Do I need something very heavy duty or not? What should I look for when buying one? Thickness etc etc...This is for a 60 inch bucket.

I have a W.R. Long one and I was sold on it when the second rock I was prying out, flipped over and into the bucket!!!

That's has never happen since :p but the toothbar will concentrate all the power of the loader into a very small area, the tip of the toothbar. Most of them are heavy duty.

I have a tooth bar made by W.R.Long also. They are made in NC. They are especially helpful when digging or working in rocky soil. They also perform great when uprooting small trees and debris.

Is there a certain thickness or number of tooth bars I should look for.

I see the W.R. Long tooth bars are about $350....seems a little high versus some of the other ones I have seen. Is it worth the extra money?

I have had one on my FEL of the L4400 Kubota. It came form

It has been an excellent addition. i think it was about the best price I could find at the time and I bought it off of them on Ebay.

Iowa Farm Equipment sells W.R. Long...

I looked up your tractor... about 23-24 hp, I would say that you don't have to have heavy duty unless you have a habit of pushing your tractor to the max.

Which other models are you looking at? When I first got mine, I thought that the toothbar was overkill... Since using it with my grapple, I think it's built just right for what I need.

I don't think you need to go heavy duty. I have used my toothbar to get under rocks quite often and it works okay; I still need a spud bar a lot of the time though. The toothbar does increase digging efficiency a great deal. I bought one for my 2320 (about the same hp as your rig) and decided to get a toothbar meant for a skidsteer that weighs about 120 lbs for a 53 inch bucket. Has replaceable teeth, 5/8 thick steel, the whole works. I have managed to scrape some of the paint off in about 170 hours of loader work most of it working with clay soil and lots of basalt and lava. A standard duty unit would have done me just fine for a lot less money. Another factor to consider is that the more the toothbar weighs the less you can lift in your bucket

Crappy photo on Ebay... "Please note: Listing photo is a representation."

You mentioned 60" above and they listed "...industrial grade heavy duty tooth bar up to 59"..." Have you done the inside measurements?

It might be too heavy... using 1.5" shank vs. most heavy duty ones uses 1".

I would ask the seller for a good photo of what you are buying and ask how much it weighs and how much extra it cost to ship it... :2cents:
