50 hr. Maint. - valves and head bolts

My tractor developed a pretty loud tick starting about 6 months ago. One of the 50 hr. maint. check list items in the operator's manual for my S3010 reads: "Have dealer check valve clearance and torque head bolts". The service manual I bought describes the process in detail so I did it last week. (Yes, I know, no need to make fun of the fact that it took me 24 months to put 50 hours on it. ) I checked the gap on the valves before any adjustments and only the number 4 cylinder was right. The rest of the gaps were all too small. Happy to report that the tick went away after I adjusted the valves.

ANYWAY, I have seen a lot of you guys post about changing the fluids and fliters for the 50 hr. maint., but no one has mentioned the valves or head bolts. Is that NOT in your model's OM check list?

No, nothing like that on our MF 1635 50 hour check list at all.

I don't recall anything in my manual (R3039) regarding valves and head bolts at the 50 hour service - of course I can't remember what I had for dinner last night either. You have peaked my curiosity so now I'll have to check the manual.

the kubota equipment i have state engine valve clearance adjust every 800hr.

Not hard to do, but was wondering why nobody had mentioned it -- now I know! :laughing:

Always a good idea to check head bolt torque, and valve clearance at 50 hours. Always follow service manual when doing. May prevent future trouble , when out of warranty, down the road. Don't put all your trust in factory techs.

More likely model year. My 2011 S3010/Mitsubishi S4L is at 600hrs.

NH TL80a - 900hrs. and the way it runs I think it needs it now at 600hrs.!!!! Anyone know the valve clearance specs for it????
