Shipping a tractor = need advice

We have to ship 2 tractors to Florida for a friend.
Is there a web site that all the truckers post on when they need a load.
For example, they are sitting in Ca and their truck is empty and they want a load to go back with.
All I can find are middle men and brokers that want a fortune. All we want is to deal with the drivers.

Try USHIP but its a brokers website. I've had limited success with them. The web site estimates an average price of $500 for example. Then I had people bid as high as $2000 for the shipment and the website says that is now average price. Then I found someone who got it done for $575. It may be more of a hit and miss thing.

I tried Uship, and they are brokers. Plus they wanted to much.

I have had good success with uShip.

Post your shipment as early as possible, and don't be too quick to accept a bid. As in many things there are some hungry truck drivers out there, but they don't necessarily read the postings every day. I found it took about a week to get the low bids rolling in.

Be sure the driver is reputable. I shipped a piece of heavy equipment with about 30 gallons of diesel in it (half tank) it arrived empty and in addition to the cost of the fuel there were another $200 in repairs related to that. (The repairs would have needed to be done eventually, just the driver moved that up by 2 or 3 years)

I really don't know how you chek for that!:anyone:It comes down to whether or not the shipping company and driver wants your business again!:2cents:

My wife has used Uship for horses with great success and a price far less than I can fuel my truck for. Well maybe I spend less on fuel than the shipping fee but I do not spend three days driving.

Be careful. You almost have to go through a company. The company is who carries the insurance. Most owner operators are insured through the company they are leased to.If it isn't a company load it isn't insured. Make sure to get a copy of their certificate of insurance. Take lots of pics before shipping. Make sure there are dates on the pics. There are a lot of crooks out there. I would rather pay more for a reputable company than pay less and have your tractors disappear.
