Anyone useing solar security lights?

Our Harbor Freight # 98085 has the small 36 LED light and 4"x6" solar panel with 15' of cord and it was about $21 on super flyer special. It is working inside the house and not mounted yet so I can not speak to its service. I expect it was last as long as some $20 meals I have purchased. :D

At the same time got the 45 watt solar system (less storage batteries) for $149 but it will be a school project in the spring.

Last meal LOL thats a good one..:D:D:D:D:D

I have a question that maybe some of you that already have these lights may be able to help me make a decison regarding security lighting. I have a barn on the other side of my property that I store some equipment in as well as a lot of good junk. I have an easement to it through property that is owned by a family of thieves that they live on. They have broken windows out to get in it, so I put bars on the ground accessible ones to deter them. They dug a trench under the side to access what they wanted after I did that. I don't want to spend the money to run electricity to the barn and I was wondering about some bright motion-activated lights that are solar powered that would be bright enough and would stay on long enough for me to see them from my home, probably about 2,000' from this barn so I can call the sheriff in time to apprehend them in the act. Do any of you think there are any of the lights mentioned in this thread that would provide adequate light to at least give me a chance to help me resolve this issue? The solar lighting that I have seen to-date is too feeble to be effective.

Have you thought about security cameras also to capture the action? Descent cameras do not need light although helpful for be clarity and you probably can come up with adequate battery power to support it. Catch those losers!

Yes, they stole the cameras! I considered mounting the camera(s) inside the barn and drilling a hole in the siding and trying to capture them on it, but they would most likely see it and steal it again once they were in the barn. These people are not stupid, they are not educated and don't work, but they are wiley and quite adept theives. They have hit just about eveyone in this area and occasionally one of them gets caught and they go to jail for awhile, but are out pretty soon. If they are apprehended with something valuable enough to qualify for felony theft we can eventually hope that they will achieve persistent felony offender status, but they have figured that out they and use their kids under 18 to circumvent this statute. They constantly add to their stock once the girls reach breeding age! One of the
3rd generation girls started having kids when she was 14. They are living, breeding examples of how to beat the system and milk it. BTW, we all support the bulk of them through government programs as well.

I bought one at Lowes 3 years ago ($70), the thing works best is the summer for me. During the winter it has a much harder time keeping a charge. My neighbor has 3 almost identical to mine that seem to work good too, but also weaker in the winter months.

I think I will go ahead and put up a large dusk to dawn pole light and hardwire it to an on/off switch, I like the the extra amount of light and it should be reliable.

Someone makes an inferred game camera that transmits images to a remote box, you hide within 50' of the main camera. They steal the camera you have their picture to take to the police and the judge.
The lights I have from TSC would be good enough you could see a person but not enough to know who they are, especially at that distance.

Take your stuff out of the building and put 5 or 10 wild hogs in there, then have a couple game cameras inside! Just be sure to post pictures here for our entertainment!

Promo code worked, just ordered a single to light the steps to the shop. But I should have ordered more when they were 20 bucks each for the 2 light models.
17.99 total, no shipping or tax.

Ok, I got mine from Newegg.com, on one of their daily deal things. "Rosewill PIR Solar Spotlight". What impressed me was that they had 3 replaceable AA NIMH batterys. So if the lights outlast the batts, I can buy some new ones, but the cost of the lights almost pays for the batts.

Thank you for the Post. I ordered 3 of them... When I saw your Post, I looked on Newegg and they had a Special on them. I only Paid $17.00 each YAY!!!!

I got them NEXT DAY with FREE SHIPPING, WOW AMAZING !!!

The light is Good for the price and my purposes... I was going to open it and Update the Bulb, you can't LOL. The 1W LED was OK, but I have a 1W CREE LED, it's a lot brighter than the one that is in there. It said in the instructions, you can't change the LED :(

All in all, it's a good deal. Def. good for a place that you can't have light, I just wanted to be brighter, LMAO

THANK YOU!!!!
