John Deere Planters

I am looking at getting a 2 or 3 row planter to go behind my Bobcat CT230. I have found several online that have been converted to a 3pt style set up. I am a complete Novice at planting, so I'm looking for advice and knowledge. What is the difference between the Series 71 planters and the7100 planters? I plan on planting soybeans, corn, sorghum, turnips, rape, beats, wheat. Any info is appreciated.

So what is it that the Covington does that a 71 or 7100 doesn't? I just don't know much about this stuff. Seems like I can get plates for the JD's that will do most of what I'm looking to plant, and I can always broadcast small stuff. I suppose if I were selling a cash crop I could justify $3500, but this is for food plots only.

The Covington TP-46 has 30 available plates that can plant anything you can imagine. It comes with 4 plates and they cover almost everyone"s needs. A 1 row is all you need for 1-2 acres. 2 row would be faster if time was a factor. The best deal I have on a 2 row planter is a AC 2 row with fertilizer and all original for $1295 + cheap shipping. This planter uses John Deere or Lustran plates which are readily available from us or Ebay or Lincoln Ag Products. Ken Sweet

jd 71 planters are made in individual units,in my area they usually have swords.jd 7100 planters use a transmission drive.i would recommend the covington planters .i grew up learning to plant and cultivate with the covington set up .i also have planted with 71 and 7100 planters.

I will consider it, but being honest, it's just a lot of money for what it is. I can get a two row JD 71 for less a third of what they want for a new Covington TP-46.

I am also considering going w. just a 1 row now, just not sure how to plant with it.

I am also kinda interested in the look of the Cole 12 MX Mulitflex planter, but it falls into a similar category as the Covington as far as price is concerned.

there is nothing wrong with a 2 row jd 71 planter.it is a good planter.get 2 row makes planting and cultivating easier.

I sell the 71 deere planters and i have the sugarbeet hoppers for them also for planting small seeds. They do not work for planting wheat

Any other large seeds they work for corn soybeans peas etc
