Tractor
farm pro 2420
Hello Iam new to this so please bear with me I just purchased a used farm pro 2420 has 127 hours on it and Iam having a problem with the fuses when I got it there are 2 lines in the fuse box and the line on the far right both top and bottom line have 40 amp fuses in them but what I can see it calls for a 30 amp I was told to get a 59 amp circuit breaker and then place the blades in the slot but I dont think this will solve the problem as something is causing the fuses to blow its only the bottom right 40 amp that blows and then the tractor will not start any help in finding out what is wrong will be greatly appericated.
Thanks in advance.
Stephen.

I'm pressed for time right now, but there is no such thing as a 59 amp circuit breaker - either 50 or 60 amp. Neither of which you want there, wiring is too small. Who told you that?

so sorry bob I meant a 50 amp circuit breaker and a dealer here in missouri told the owner of the tractor that before I bought it and thanks for the reply and any other information would be appreciated thanks again.

When does the fuse blow? -- as soon as you put it in, when you turn the key or when you press in the clutch with the key turned? Broken clutch safety switches are very common and will blow the fuse every time -- I think the fuse you are blowing is the 30 amp one in the starting circuit but I could be wrong. Make sure the tractor is out of gear, put in a fresh fuse and try it without the safety switch in the circuit (just connect the two wires of the switch together with a jumper wire) . If the fuse still pops then it won't be the safety switch and you can move to other troubleshooting steps. Search for blown fuse in this forum and I think you will find a lot of good info on trouble shooting and fixing the problem.
As I said -- make sure the tractor is out of gear

"Don't worry about that, it does it all the time, just put a bigger fuse in it" Classic bad advice! Strike that, HORRIBLE advice, and an excellent way to cook-off an entire wire harness bundle, and possibly start a fire. Diesel soaked wire harness under a fiberglass hood will make a lovley blaze, especially after the fuel hose burns in two! But don't roast marshmallows...

If you can follow the wiring from the battery, thru the main fuse to the key and back to the fuse block. You should be able to disconnect the wire in the middle of the circuit which might get you closer to where the short is... If it blows the fuse every time, that is easy... It is the intermittent ones that can be difficult to track.

This might help to trace wiring...

I would tell everyone to boycot that extremely ignorant dealer. He gave out advice that could potentially kill someone.:mad::mad:

There could be several things causing the blown fuses " But don't put anything in there larger than a 30 amp fuse, the fuse blowing is telling you something is wrong

Possible locations

Key Switch , Clutch switch, glow plugs, bad soleniod or starter, fuse box wire grounding out

Just start at the key switch testing one part at a time, you will find it these tractors are pretty simple to repair

thank you for all your help people they only time the fuse blows is when its in the H position and holding it there if I go quick just to the st position it starts right up also there is a st position on the left side of the ignation what is that for as turning the key to the right goes thru the H and to st and if I go to slow there goes the fuse.
Thanks again for all your help.

Blowing the system fuse in the H position means a problem in the glow plug circuit. Look for a green wire that's attached to a copper buss bar or set of 3 wires connecting the 3 glow plugs. It may even have a little white tag on it with the number 12. Disconnect the green lead wire from the buss. Replace the fuse, put the keyswitch in the H position. If the fuse doesn't blow, you've almost certainly got one or more bad glow plugs. I'd replace all three. If it's a manifold heater, same thing - just replace the single glow plug.
