Need to cut off a dead limb about 30' above ground

Coming from a former safety officer, personally, I think this design is brilliant. It looks a heck of a lot more stable than a ladder on the ground with no support. If I had forks I'd copy it. Only improvement I could see is make some leveling jackscrews on the base for slopes. However, that might not be needed as it seems like you could position the tractor so it isn't cross-slope. Looks a lot safer than a ladder by itself.

Super Cobra, good idea on the jack stands, I don't often get into situations where I am on a slope, I can usually adjust approach to stabilize, however a few times other trees have limited my approach and have used timbers to support, the stands would be handy for those times.

I can have it converted back to forklift in about 10 min. since I bought another set, I just leave the ladder mounted.

If you want to stay on the ground you can always take a chainsaw chain and take a joint out so that its one long strand of chain. Tie a string to each end, throw it over the limb and start pulling it back and forth...

Post #4:

If it is "very dead" you should be able to cast a line up there and pull a rope up and use a tractor or truck to pull it off, just stay out from under it and go slow. Another option is the redneck branch saw, cut an old chain from a chain saw and tie it between two lengths of rope, throw it over and pull the ends back and forth in a sawing motion till it cuts thru, before you laugh...it works in a pinch.

Here's where Walter would respectfully remind Donny that he's out of his element.

:shocked::shocked::shocked:.
I'm hoping that by renting a seemingly appropriate machine for my branch cutting job, subsequent pics will be safety-police approved ... & your loader-ladder contraption will maintain a slight edge in the voting

Well if you want to rent a machine that is safety police approved, here is one that's apparently even OSHA approved:

I actually saw one of these in action locally.

Guys, it's not a crazy contraption unless I say it is....and neither designs in competition are crazy unsafe. Both use good materials, are stabil in their attachment to tractor and have bracing mechanisms. More importantly, neither operator has yet demonstrated characteristics best explained in the "James, the narcoleptic tree trimmer" video. GOogle it:confused2: Was he in Fla. too?

Will be in Vegas, CES, next week so any silence you might note from me is because I am speechless in amazement over electronical contraptions!:D

I am watching this thread to see if it meets the Darwin Awards criteria when the work begins...

Possibly a garden hose if you don't have enough rope...

(Sorry Guys...I couldn't help myself)...

texasjohn, thanks for your honest perception of the safe and adequate rigging's that have been presented to date, yes, keyword, "was in fl." seems James went out on a limb and decided to branch out, as you can clearly see in video, he was snoring up the wrong tree. Last I heard, due to his intolerance to cold weather, he was going to try and open a twig in Texas.

Well need to say my good byes to ole Bubba, when I came in from work yesterday, I saw his motor home was packed and sitting in front yard as I passed his house.

I saw him peeling his house numbers off the old washing machine out front so I asked him what he was doing, he looked up, spit a wad of baccki juice on the washer lid, took a sip of his Bud and said " well Dami, as you know we be livin here for 10+ years, so that we don't have to change our address, we our takin it with us, just kinda brought a tear to my eye.

That's quite alright there red, I am guilty of the garden hose in a pinch, was needin to lower a branch down, I realized I needed 15' more rope, well you get the rest.

Did the dirty deed and attached garden hose to limb, when limb snapped suddenly, I couldn't control it, ripped the hose bib right outta the wall.
