This past fall I needed to replace the 25 or 30 year old oil burner with a new unit. I decided on a high efficiency condensing gas boiler, it only cost a little bit more than the price a new oil burner and replacing the the original tank which was over 50 years old.
Boy do I like this unit, it mounts to the wall so it takes up very little space plus there is no oil tank in the basement any more. This unit makes hot water for the baseboard heating system and it makes domestic hot water.
Last winter it was costing me about 500 a month to heat 1200 square feet with oil, I just got my gas bill for the month of December, $117.76. Granted, this winter has not been quite as cold as last year but I am still very impressed.

That's an interesting installation. Are those separate pumps for each zone, and are they controlled by separate thermostats?

We had a gas-fired hot water system in our previous home. But there was only one pump with the zones controlled by separate thermostats and valves.

What is the name of the boiler? I can't make it out due to the glare.

The house has three heating zones so there are three circulating pumps, each zone is controlled by its own thermostat.

Good for you, anything is better than oil and the continous raping from the oil companies. Many of the elderly here in the NE burn oil, its running around 3.30 a gallon or so. Consider another secondary heat source if ya can, just to supplement the NG. Also keep in mind one big secret many LP providers don't share. If you can afford to buy your own tanks do so, as there is a consideranle mark up for renting per gallon. It also allows you to shop around for the best price. My buddy saved almost a dollar a gallon having his own tanks, currently hes around 2.20 I think he was saying new years

Tollster, we are talking about natural gas here. I have never heard of storing it in tanks, at least at a residence. I have also never heard of being able to shop around for it. I think you are confusing Propane/LP with Natural Gas.

I may have the two confused, I was referring to LP. The LP is more rural use, and trucked delivery... Natural gas is the one typically piped in. Sorry about the mix up.

Good Mornin V1Rotate,
Thats a real slick installation ! Not only economically feasible to operate but no wasted floor space in your cellar !

As another posted mentioned, oil in the NE is rediculous, $3.50 plus around here...

Good Luck with your new unit !
