Hi, I am wanting to buy a backhoe for my B7800 and have found a discounted price on a BH75A that has been sitting in it's crate outdoors in a coastal town since new, they say 2-3 years. Does anyone have thoughts on if sitting that long exposed to plenty of rain and elements (though crated) would necessarily cause any damage as far as seals etc.? I just don't know much of anything about hydraulics etc. I'd save about $900 vs. buying a brand new, just delivered BH77. I guess the hoes are fairly equivalent? What would you do?? Any and all thoughts shared would be most definitely appreciated! Thanks!

The seals are wet even on an unused hoe so that's a non-issue.

Look at it this way. When you aren't using it, it will probably sit in the elements anyway. Barring faded paint, the mechanicals are not effected.

a lot of factors come into play here. a coastal town i would assume near an ocean, ocean mist/moisture/salt. salt rusts metal quicker then normal. if not too rusty, check if the cylnders were exposed to the elements. sometimes they can "pit" (little tiny holes) that would lead to problems later. also how much are you going to use it. if a lot, then maybe the $900 extra would be worth it for warrenty purposes. probably no warrenty on a crate model that has been sitting around. and you know the new one would fit the b7800 and have all the hardware with it. if anything is missing from the crate one then there goes some of your savings. just my thoughts and good luck with your decision.

I sounds like they don't have people kicking the door down wanting to purchase it. Make them an offer and try to put the most money in your pocket for anything you may need to replace. Good Luck

Thanks a lot for the replies! The "old" one is a Kubota dealer and would have a full warranty and they want $6300 for the BH75A w/ subframe installed (not including thumb), the brand spanking new BH77 w/subframe installed (no thumb) I got a price from another Kubota dealer of $7400. The older one is further away and I would eat up another $200 +or- for extra fuel and needed overnight accommodations..figuring in coming up with the roughly $900 difference. Any thoughts on possible advantages/disadvantages with the BH77 vs. BH75A? (I did read about the breaking pins on the BH77 that has supposedly been remedied). I guess my savings would further be eaten up by a trip up there to inspect the BH75A prior to hauling the tractor up for the job. At least a very economical car. ??? hmmm Thanks again....!

My preference would be to go with the new BH77. They would have to do a lot better than $6300 on the older unit to convince me to by it. My main concern with the older unit is with the exposed part of cylinder rods and the exposed part of the spools in the hydraulic control valve. These are probably showing rust by now from non-use. Not good, especially with the control valve.

Sounds like they are sitting on a white elephant. Not much demand for BHs except as part of a package deal either new or used. I have always figured it it has left the dealers yard or over a year old it is now used. I would start negotiations at 25% less than new. The price they are quoting; I would buy the new one.

I have to agree with Mac in PA - $6300 seems sort of steep. I would shoot for some where in the mid 5K range and if not go with the newer model.
Either way you will be getting a nice piece of equipment.
