Converted from oil to natural gas

I may have the two confused, I was referring to LP. The LP is more rural use, and trucked delivery... Natural gas is the one typically piped in. Sorry about the mix up.

You can't just change over from NG to LP. I know you must at least change the spuds.

Good Mornin V1Rotate,
Thats a real slick installation ! Not only economically feasible to operate but no wasted floor space in your cellar !

As another posted mentioned, oil in the NE is rediculous, $3.50 plus around here...

Good Luck with your new unit !

Thanks
I'm in CT so I know about high oil prices. The guys that did the install did a great job, if you notice, they put ball valves before and after all the pumps and expansion tank so that in the future if anything has to be changed out, all you have to do is close the valves, instead of draining the whole system.

This unit has a "gas modulating system" which works like a throttle. If there is only a small demand for heat or hot water, the gas valve only opens up a little, as demand increases, the valve will open proportionatly to provide just what is needed, no wasted heat. Plus I like that it uses outside air for cumbustion instead of sucking heated air from indide the house.

Good Evenin V1Rotate,
Those ball valves are a litte pricey, but really the right way for a quality installation IMO ! :)

Sorry, don't know nothing about your spuds or NG, never had it and doubt I ever will, but will keep you in mind should I need my spuds changed...

V1, whereabouts in CT are you? Unfortunatley, there's no NG available where I'm at (Killingworth). Oil is running $3.60ish last I checked. Put a wood burning insert in our fireplace last August and have been burning wood for 80% of our heating requirements. The rest comes from a small propane stove we put in our den about 3 years ago. I did buy the tank at the time for about $500 which I thought was high, but my cost per gallon of LP is wholesale + $.65 whereas renting was wholesale + $2.00. Figure I'm money ahead in about 2-3 years easy.

Your NG furnace install intrigues me as we've been in our house for 22 years and our oil furnace is rated for a 20-25yr life, so it will be coming due soon and when the time comes, I'd like to be able to go NG. Still use our oil furnace for hot water so I can't get off of oil completely (yet).

I'm just west of Hartford. The Navien system does the hot water for your baseboards and domestic hot water for showers as well, so it could replace your furnace completely, and it can use propane or natural gas.

The company that installed my furnace was Saucier Mechanical, located in Southington. They did an incredable job with all aspects of the installation and setup. Call them if you are thinking of replacing your furnace, ask for Gary Saucier.

Thanks for the reference. Don't think they'll be running natural gas pipes down my road anytime soon (too bad it isn't sold like LP with storage tanks on prem - maybe too dangerous?). When the time comes, I'll be looking into an LP system if LP stays considerably lower than oil. Last delivery was around $2.40/gal.
