Sorry' no coyotes get a pass here.They have decimated the turkey population here.Tough on the deer fawns in the spring also.The hound hunters in the area kill hundreds every year..we still have lots of coyotes.

Good point, they have moved in here and are a huge pain.

The northern coyote is bigger then the southern because of cross breeding with wolves. They also are more likely to attack because of predatory instincts that were passed. I have been surrounded more then once on a dark night out in the yard. It's an erie fellings when a human feels they may be on the lower end of the food chain.

So far they have only slightly repopulated here after about a hundred year absence. A couple have been run over and the DNR has sent out signs and leaflets to the golf courses, etc... It surprises me there aren't more with the huge turkey, deer, pheasant, quail and rabbit populations we have.

We had no coyotes in my area when I was growing up, but they are very prevalent now; use to have a LOT of rabbits, but no more.

Our turkey population has decline, but deer seem to be doing OK.

If you have any now, you will have plenty in the future.

We have no more Rabbits or Quail either ,the Coyotes moved in about 5 yrs. ago and it has been that long since I saw a Rabbit...we still have deer and squirrel .opossums and skunks as well as Turkeys...Armadillos have moved up here from Fla....I guess the Giant Pythons are next...Maybe they will kill off the Coyotes..I don't like killing anything since I've gotten older even if I am going to eat it...but I will if food ever becomes scarce and I will to protect my pets.

The Virginia Game dept is begging people to shoot a coyote if they have the chance.

They are NOT native here and we have both the smaller ones from TX, and the large Northern Coyote that has crossbred with wolves. I had one of those big boys in my backyard at 4:30 pm broad daylight, before the chickens etc, back last April shortly after we moved here. Right where my kids play. I've also seen small packs of the smaller ones literally running the deer trails in the snow Dec 2010 hunting season.

Shortly after that I got a 9mm auto for open carry on my property.

Yotes will not get a pass on my property.

I think the smaller purebreds were native just about everywhere on the continent a few centuries ago, some say no, some say so. But due to poison, lack of cover, food,etc... they were forced out of most areas. What I don't understand is why the change in bloodlines and why the re-population now?

I am pretty much the same way; wonder how common that is. I still deer "hunt", but haven't brought a deer home in years. I will probably take one off of our property next year as they are getting pretty thick, but I don't particularly want to.

My wife on the other hand will drop one on sight.

Probably pretty common. The older I get the less inclined I am to pull the trigger. As a matter of fact, it's not the bigguns I've killed that are seared into my memory but the bigguns I let walk on by that bring back the most vivid images.
