??? Reply makes no sense.

It wasn't directed to you or about you unless you think shooting dumb animals is the only answer!

I don't know of any herbivores that won't eventually come to a fresh cut apple.

I can't resist em either!

Dang! I was hoping for an epic/hilarious story stretching out for weeks. :)
Good for you that it was a short story.

Yep... there have been lots of horses being found grazing on the sides of rural roads here in Texas.... This has got to be the worst year for hay Ive ever seen...

Get this, guys. Yesterday I was itching for a reason to use the tractor, so I decided to brush hog the neighbor's field-ish area that borders much of my yard. (not as selfless as it sounds, it makes my house look a lot better when it's mowed, and my neighbor never even sees this part of his property) Anyway, as I was finishing, a truck pulls into my drive and a guy gets out, asking me if I've seen a WHITE SHETLAND PONY. I told him I've seen it around my place and tried to locate an owner, and eventually someone I know picked it up. He was okay with that, considering how long it was missing. I put him in touch with the person who hauled the horse away. I also showed him my broken landscaping lights with the hoof prints all around, but he didn't offer to replace 'em :( lol

A almost a MONTH after the pony runs off? Did you ask him where he lived or why it took him so long to come looking for it? I think I would have got his number and gave it to your friend and let him decide if he wanted to return it or not, sounds like he wasn't too concerned.

Honestly I didn't even think about. I never asked him where he lives or what took him so long. I was thinking in the back of my head that my friend might not be too happy about giving up "his" new horse, but that was it. I just hope I never see the guy -- or his horse -- again.

What is the answer? Here in the Peoples Republic of Maryland we have the right to protect our property. A couple of years ago my neighbor's 4-H bull had gotten out on 3 occassions. Took out 5 or six of our fence boards on 1 occasion and and was headed for the house on the third. I called the owner and she asked me to put it down.
Grabbed the trusty Sharps and dropped it in the landscaping. We got half the meat which wasn't all that bad. I'll be damned if I'll let some rogue critter mess around with what have worked so hard to build.
We go out of our way to keep out animals contained.

Even if you had gotten leads on them what would you have done with them?
