I sent a beautiful three year old English setter to Montana last fall with friends, they are die hard bird hunters and were going to spend two months there and planned to give him lots of wild bird work. After two weeks he was gone, they suspect coyotes. They can be a threat to hunting dogs, for sure.
On my farm we have few coyotes although I know they are in the area. If the opportunity presents itself I would shoot one. My friend on the other hand has a large farm locally and he lets them go. He feels they help keep the deer population down so he has less crop damage.
