I only have 12 hrs on my new L4740,(so it's still new to me) yesterday while using it, I noticed there is no mark on the tach indicating where 540rpm for pto speed should be set at. Why?

On the Grand L's the digital display will tell you the PTO speed. Just press the display button on the right of the steering wheel.

I too use the digital display. It is somewhere around 2500 or 2700 as I remember on my L4240.

Use your digital tach to set pto speed at 540 rpm. Why? Most pto driven items are designed to work best at 540 input rpm. Mowers, blade tip speed at most effecient setting. Generators, sets frequency at 60 hertz. There are many examples. You will find 540 pto rpm is near max engine rated speed to take advantage of engine horsepower. What equipment are you driving with pto? Philip.

After typing the question, I went to cut a load of wood, I engaged the PTO and remember seeing "PTO" display on the read out. I scrolled through and found a digital display showing PTO RPM'S. I have a 8ft dual auger Snow Blower that I use. Thanks

Check the specifications from the snow blower manufacturer and see what input speed they recommend. (It will be 540). Philip.

Just chalk it up to the fun of owning a new tractor. When I first got mine I didn't realize the cruise control lever worked independent of the HST pedal. I thought you went what ever speed you wanted with the HST pedal then set the cruise (like a car). Every time I used it I would push it all the way forward and go faster than I wanted. Because of that I never really used it. Now I know that you don't need to touch the pedal, just move the lever forward until you are going at a speed you want.

I found out on my L5740 the tach doesn't really read PTO rpm. I stepped on the clutch with my PTO running my rotary cutter and noticed the PTO readout climbed a bit while I could hear the rotary cutter slow down. Let up on the clutch again and the pitch of the cutter increased while the PTO readout dropped again. Guess Kubota felt it was less expensive to electronically ratio engine speed than to put another speed sensor on the PTO shaft.

I'm glad you shared the Cruise details, I didn't know that either. I do remember trying it out, and had my foot on the HST pedal then moving the cruise lever all the way forward, it almost snapped my neck. My B3030 cruise lever works with the HST Pedal. Thanks for the lesson. With the lack of snow this year I really haven't spent my time on my tractor, and with the rain the ground is muddy, I don't like mud or making ruts.

Does it really matter? The only time you really care about pto speed is when you are driving it off of the engine. As long as your clutch isn't slipping it'll be accurate so why add one more sensor that could fail?
