One of the quick lubes would have had you in out of the cold for your oil change . It is very nice of you to allow someone to use your garage. Do not feel taken advantage of. There are much worse things that could have happened a local news story showed a man standing besides his burnt out commercial building. A friend had been welding in the back garage. Be happy this too shall pass and you will get your garage back.

It only took 15 minutes. An easy car to change the oil on. My rules are don't get hurt and don't burn the place down.

For the OP on this, I would make sure the battery cable is disconnected. If there is a fire, he will likely be looking to you for payment to cover his loss. That's the way this stuff works. And I wouldn't enter into a payment or barter arrangement in that it means a deal of some sort has been reached and each of you has obligations to fulfill to the other. And you just thought you were being a nice guy.
Get the car out however you do it. Time is up. It is nothing but a potential liability to you as well as a gross inconvenience, especially when it comes to you changing your oil outside. I notice the guy with the car in your shop didn't offer to change it for you.
Just my two cents.

Yes he did offer to change the oil. You raise good points though. He is working on it right now. He has had the battery cable disconnected.

A little incentive goes a long ways

He has not seen the conditions yet. The drive shaft came in, he installed, and is gone. Thanks to everyone for their patience with me.

That's what TBN friends are for...

Didn't want you going Postal.

I've been in your situation and sometimes all you can do is move forward and hope to avoid a repeat in the future.

Am I the only one who would be happy to have an old vette in the garage, that I didn't have to pay for? I don't see why everyone is so worked up?

On the other hand, a neighbour has a nice shop that he paints in. As kids he let us work on vehicles there when it wasn't making money. The 1st rule was they go outside every single night so he has an empty shop in the am to work from. The second rule was every tool has a place, and every tool is to be in it when the shop is cleaned up each night. If it went missing while you're there, you buy a new one.

Please don't think I took this too seriously. I just wanted my TBN friends to help me consider my options. A lot of good information came out of it. Imagine having to pay for a service like this.

We all got to vent as it keeps us patient as well as the good level headed advice from others that are not emotionally involved. Dont rebound with guilt because you put the pressure on him (you have not discovered missing/broken tools yet).
At least you got a parking space to do maintenance now.

Congrats on your vette departure. I am curious though, you said the car has a non chevrolet engine and transmission. What is under the hood?
