very hard to start

I was not happy listening to the engine warming up,. It sounded like some nuts and bolts were traveling throughout the engine during the warm up phase, :confused3:

Have you ever heard a diesel running with air in the fuel system? That really does sound like your pouring nuts and bolts in the air intake.

I believe the sound your referring to is partial or incomplete combustion. It's possible to get ignition in 2 cylinders, but not in the third. So, the engine runs initially, but not on all the cylinders. When the third cylinder gets warm enough, it goes away. A very long glow plug preheat will help ensure all cylinders fire.

It's also possible to experience this due to mechanical issues. When an engine is worn, perhaps has low compression on one cylinder, a bad glow plug(s), or a bad or clogged fuel injector(s), what you described can happen on start up, even in warmer weather.

Irving, whats involved with installing it?

Is it a newbie job?

I'm trying to get the dealer to throw it in...

bought mine in northern alberta. i think there was 9 or 10 of them on the lot that day... all had dealer installed block heaters.

Thanks, Ray, you beat me to it.

Dogscape-- Installation was really easy. 1) Drain radiator --there's even a drain cock at the base of the radiator-- 2) pop out freeze plug by usual method*, 3) slide in heater, 4) bolt in place, 5) replace radiator fluid that was drained.

*Remove freeze plug, which is soft metal, by poking a hole in it with an awl/punch and hammer; pry on an angle and plug should slide out, it's just a friction fit. CAUTION: Don't use a drill to make the hole, as chips will likely fall inside, and don't drop the plug into the water jacket's interior!

The really nice thing about the 2310 (I think the 2400/2600 series are the same) is that the freeze plug is readily accessible if you remove the grille panel from the front of the "body." On some of the larger tractors, that plug is really hidden behind a lot of other stuff.

I would have been really happy if the heater was dealer-supplied when I bought it; I'd have been happy to do the installation myself. As it was, however, I didn't realize I needed (wanted) it until after the first year, so it was my dime.

This is my first diesel engine that I have owned,. I am learning as time goes by,. KC :D :D :D
