1700 gear problem

Guys I need some help, please. My Yanmar 1700 was having a problem with jumping out of the high side. After searching around here I decided to pull the shifter plate off today to have a look around to see if the shifter fork, etc. was worn. It appeared to be fine. So after putting the plate back on I started it up, put it in gear and let the clutch out, it died immediately. So now I have a non moving tractor. If I hold the H/L shifter in the center while the gear shifter is in neutral I can roll it by hand. It will not move in gear however.

Have any of y'all ran into this problem or have any solutions? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you have two gears engaged at once. Have your read the thread entitled "popping out of gear". It is about 4 or 5 threads down from this one. You need to have all your gears in the neutral position and the shifter in the neutral position when you install your shifter making sure all forks engage the appropriate gear. This is not going to solve your jumping out of high range however. That is the same problem 8ball was having with his 2000 which is the same transmission you have.

I have not read that thread, going to now, thanks. I will go back out and look to see if I can tell if two gears are engaged. I can deal with the popping out of high side, I just need to get it moving again.:confused2:

Take a look at my thread like Winston suggested and while you have the shift assembly off take a look at the shift lever guide. There's Pics in my thread of the damaged and new one. Hoye suggested that could be a problem before I found the damaged part.

On the High low shift fork there's a Check Ball and Spring. Since It's going into Gear I would be looking hard at it. Dirt,Rust etc. preventing the ball from Locking into it's Seat. Just came up with someone having the same Problem of it coming out of 3&4 Gear. Cleaned and oiled His and that took care of the Problem.

I got it back running this morning. Everything is working correctly now, and so far it's not jumping out of high gear. I hope it will stay that that way. Thanks for the help guys.

Might have to try that on mine if it continues to pop out of high after replacing the shifter parts hoye suggested.
