Nice work Jeff! Its nice to see excellence in American craftsmanship.

Well I dont know about excellence but this was quite a bunch of work to be sure. That itself can be a problem for me as I have almost zero patience. But I have learned a lot doing this and no matter when you screw it up by hurrying, you have to remember there is probably a bunch of work to get to the point that you just screwed up. It's no fun to mess up 10 hours into a project.

Do you re-harden it after you have shaped/formed the blade?

No I do not with the saw steel I do not have to anneal it so no. The saw's have a rockwell hardness of 63.With the the bering race yes 500 degrees for 1 hr ,air hardening I think it is called ( no water or oil used)I let it cool in cat litter or just wait till it it cool enough to touch

Nice knife! Here's a Damascus blade that I made for a friend. The handle is not carved it just looks that way. Spalted Big Leaf Oregon Maple.

Nice,.
Kinda fun to do as well.
Last I made used an old metal file and shaped it into a general purpose/skinning blade.
We were able to quarter a large moose without honing the blade.
File steel sure keeps a good edge.

When you use an old file do you just slow grind it to keep the temper. ie. grind dip grind dip?

Wow nice work guys, the stone knife is really a piece of art! I too am an amature knife maker. I make mine from leaf spring steel and hammer forge them. I've only made 6, wish I had more time to do it. The details are very time consuming. This is knives #5 and #6, I made them for my best friends. They are both hunters, so I get plenty feedback on how they perform. The secret is is the heat treat as you all know, but these have cleaned 5-6 deer/hogs each and still shave! When we get moved out to our homestead I plan to set up a nice permanent forge. I plan to try a forge welded, or "Damascus" blade next.

Wagonranch, did you forge the blade yourself? Very nice by the way!
