How do you trailer a 10' rotary cutter?

wow.. a load it jacked up issue would be 8x more difficult than just loading it sideways.

lets see if we can come up with anything HARDER.. how about standing it on a side so it is only 1' 'thick'.. ???????

That is the way the hydro plane Boats are hauled from race to race. They just load them at a angle. Dealers do recieve mowers stacked like cards on edge. There the height becomes a concern. Permits are a pain and costly.

We use blanket overweight permits at work to haul 20 foot containers that typically have about 60K to 80K packed into them, on tri-axle trailers. Bridge law gives us the most trouble, but seldom a problem hauling ag equipment.

OK, so I didn't decorate my post with a lot of emoticons indicating humor.
'nuf said on that.

I'm not saying that I have the skills to do it, but it is a fair bet that many folk on this board do, or could get someone who DOES know how to do it right.

I'd even bet a house framer could rig up a suitable "wedge" in a couple of hours - and probably "over engineer" it to boot (-:

If I had to do it for a 100 mile trip I would look very hard at this.
I don't have to, but 5 or 6 ft on a gooseneck trailer wouldn't pose a height issue for any bridges that I know of.

not really a pain or expense, if you use your overdimensional permit often..

I have to apply for our OD permit every year. I fill out the form using the previous years as a template.. fax it in with CC # and poof a couple days later the permit shows up.

some expense.. little pain... our transport is probably moving something OD at least 2-3 days a week.

if it were a 1 time deal.. you can get a trip permit instead of a blanket.. or ire a contract hauler for that onesy...

given the WEIGHT of a 10' mower... I'd wager that loading it at an angle on a deckover GN would be troublesome for most.

not to mention that you'd need a large tractor with loader or crane to unload it at destination.. IE.. something to load and unload it.

if your tractor is big enough with a laoder to do that loading, and be hauled on the trailer at the same time.. then just save the hassle and load it sideways at the front.. load tractor.. get to destination, unload tractor, then mower, then go.

other than a neat evercise on paper for the geometry lovers.. I'm not sure what loading at an angle accomplishes for the average move, unless you need to load more implements next to it and don't have the space...

In Indiana at least getting a over width permit is very easy. Like SoundGuy I get two a year to transport a 40' boat with a 13' beam. No big deal at all. Can do it in a few minutes over the phone with a fax machine.
