The Opposite of What We Want...A *Lightweight* Tractor

Neat ole iron is definitely a good thing. I would recommend a Farmall Cub. Partially because I have one, but also because they are rather light. Lighter than an 8n. Mines been in the family since new since 53. Thing sure runs like a champ. Starts every time. It is fun owning these older machines. Mine spends most of its time at the lake house so unfortunately I only get to see it on the weekends in the summer. Always a pleasure to run though:thumbsup:

:laughing::laughing: Its pretty well been retired to putting around duty and a drive to the friends every now and again. It got plenty of use in its first 55 years, the last 5 have been retirement My grandfather was the cofound of Consumers Electric, the largest electric company in the state of michigan, and back in the day they used this thing as one of their main machines. Hard to believe now. To bad for me he didn't think the company was going to make it and sold out his part or I'd be living good right now!

Kubota's are the most light in weight of all the major tractor manufacturers. It's one of Kubota's selling features. Some say the light weight of a Kubota makes it less of a tractor. For me its just the opposite. Light weight when I mow my yard. Heavy when I push snow. Weight when I need it is what I prefer. My B7800 weighs 2,000# with filled tires. The 2,000# weight is what I mow with. Outfitted for snow with a loader, chains, and a ballast box the tractor weighs 3,400#. A 3,400# tractor is way to heavy on my yard. For a do-all tractor weight is a consideration.

As a dedicated mowing machine, it's hard to beat a zero-turn mower with turf tires.
Now much lawn do you have to mow?

Ditto. Fast and does a great job. Plus my string trimming went from half hour or more down to five minutes.

Amen, brother. I don't use my L3240 to mow the lawn, but I do use it to brush hog a field and a few clearings. Our land is very wet, so being able to run the tractor light when the soil is soft and ballast it up when I need the weight for FEL work or pulling traction is a great aspect of the machine and allows me more tractor time. Built right & light.

I second the zero turn. I did mow for a while several years ago with a middle mower deck on a small Kubota tractor and found it satisfactory at best .. but watch out if you leave the Front loader on.. just look at one of my fence posts. I now have the BX 25 and a Kubota ZD 1800 with a 54in deck and the combo is perfect. Less trimming required as the zero turn gets in closer and with no middle mower deck on the tractor I have better ground clearance on the tractor.

I'll add to the zero turn camp. I have a 60" Ferris, no tractor light or heavy could beat it. If I do manage to kill it one day (pretty unlikely), I'd buy another zero turn over a finishing deck for the tractor.

Zero turns are nice... but the OP has stated he is interested more in an older tractor to both mow and toy around with...
