Old guy gave me this double barrel I know very little about it
Things I do know
Belgian something something is stamped on it (very hard to read)
It is 12-gauge
and it needs some work may be just a wall hanger

any ideas? value or otherwize... Value really does not matter that much to me because once I get a gun it is mine for life

I have one just like it. Is was my grandfathers shot gun. They were imported from Belgium. Look for a stamping on the gun near the hammers. "Janssen Sons" are the makers of the shotgun. Early 1900's. The barrel is not designed for todays more powerful shotgun shells so be careful if you plan on firing the gun.

Nice old piece.

Most likely, that's correct. Since you don't know much about it yourself, please take it to a competent gunsmith before even attempting to fire it. If it's a 19th century gun, chances are it has Damascus (twist steel) barrels. It can't handle modern shotshells. It will probably have 2 1/2" chambers, not 2 3/4" as more modern guns do, and those were designed to fire black powder shells, not modern propellants.

If there is any doubt, do yourself a favor and make it wall-hanger.

I was 10 or 11 years old when my maternal grandfather gave me what had been his father's 12 gauge, double barrel, side hammers. It was a little loose, but I used it a little bit for hunting. Then my grandmother gave me her father's single shot .410 and it was a good tight gun, so I used it quite a bit. But they lived in Oklahoma City and my grandmother once said she wished they'd kept one gun in the house for protection, so the next time I was up there, I took the 12 gauge and left it, but my grandmother said she'd never shot anything but that .410 and wished I'd brought it instead. So the next trip I took her the .410 and forgot to take the 12 gauge home with me. The next time I asked about the shotguns, my grandfaher said, "Well, you brought them back so I thought you didn't want them, and I sold them."
