Thanks guys for your thoughts. Much appreciated. Decided that my requirements are really on the light duty side, rather short term, and the cost/benefit of a tooth bar hard to justify. At least for now. I'm new to this forum, but am learning a boat load of stuff from veterans like you...Ray

Here are a couple of options if you are considering one

Option 1 is the Long Tooth Bar. It is flat, with smooth backdragging capabilities, that should pick up the fine/finish material:

Tooth Bars TB, STB, and ITB

Option 2 is inexpensive, lightweight, easy to install/remove: Berlon: Mini Tooth Bar

Hmmm. Interesting options you pose here Don. Will look into them. Thanks a bunch.

In deference to others experience, I find that a tooth bar is helpful for back dragging: it allows me to fluff up the gravel and smooth the driveway up. Plus it makes it easy to not dig or scarf the ground as the ground varies.

But it doesn't sound like it will address your needs.

It does make digging much more effective.
And it will penetrate hard ground much better (bought mine last spring and dug a foundation for an addition to my house). A box scrapper with rippers would be a good tool to have as well.
