Well, if the photo of the skid steer with the logs was 1,000 lb, how many scoops of logs did you put on the truck? I would have guessed that you had 24,000 lb of logs and say 12,000 lb for the truck = 36,000 lbs.

Not even close to winning the 'cruelty to animals' award!

We just used the skid steer w/log loader to unload the truck. The truck was loaded up in the woods with with a Bobcat T190, pallet forks and a JD brush grapple attachment. I have no idea how many scoops it took to unload the logs. I think you are in the ballpark.

Having logs stick out past the mirrors would get you pulled over pretty quick around here. But I've seen much worse with some of the farm trucks hauling crops from fields.

40-50 miles would definitely be the max you'd want to go... And would want to stay away from the weigh stations the cops sit at or you'd be looking at a pretty hefty fine.

You have heard that the cops often have portable scales??? I have been weighed on them several times, but have always come out on the right side of them... just!!!

The trouble is that there is often a crew at the weigh station and a second crew floating around. While they are at the weigh station, you know where they are, but it is the second crew that you have to watch out for.

The image shows what happens when you go to a committee meeting and you give the Inspector curry!!! The committee was 'weighing guidelines for enforcement purposes'. A lawyer, transport inspector and a transport operator made up the committee... no prize for guessing which one I am! The lawyer had never seen a truck weighed on portable scales. The inspector and I are old friends, so we decided to demonstrate the portable scales to the lawyer. It does help if the operator does know how to set the scales as well... also keeps the inspector honest... like checking zero after the weighing!!! (It has been a few years since the event, but I still get mileage out of it!!!)

So, just because there is a crew at the weigh station, watch out for the second crew wandering about, to catch the strays!!! The other question: How far are they allowed to take you to be weighed? Just curious to compare with Australia.

Ding.

Oh yes, they had a few here. They robbed one out of a dump truck to put onto the fire pump at a power plant I've worked at. Only one parts importer left down in the US. Very hard to get parts.

I've got a grain hauler, 1970 F600. Needed a grain hauler bad, bought it 2nd day of bean harvest. Fella I bought it from is a hoist & box guy, said he bought the truck for the hoist & box, made me a deal on the whole truck. He guessed the box would hold 300 bu maybe.

Truck says 23,xxx lb gross, licence says 26,000. Took a 1/2 load to town see if it works, unloads fine, loaded it comfortably full the 2nd time but didn't stuff the corners. Got on the scale and - holy cow. I was at 31,000 lbs. Man o man.

I was surprised. Keeping it a little less after that!
