Am I foolish??

I carry a Taurus .357 Mag w/4" barrel when I'm out on my farm, and I really want a .357 Mag lever action rifle, w/20" barrel to carry as well as a compliment to the pistol. Reasoning being that I only have to carry 1 ammo type with me when I'm out there.
Am I foolish to spend the money on a .357 lever action just to fill my desire to have the same ammo delivery system?

Life is too short, get what you want.

I never said I could actually afford it. I just want it. Gonna have to figure out HOW to finance the purchase if I can .....

As I assume what Dirty Harry would say " Afford has nothing to do with it"

Makes perfect since and in case you where in a position to have to reload, say with blood/dirt in your eye's, hitting your target would be a bigger concern, not the ammo.

Wife has the Marlin/Ruger 357 combo. I would like a 44 combo. I still kick myself for not getting on of the guns I passed over a few years ago; those Ruger 44 Carbine's, like a 10/22.

Ya get what you want.On another note tho...I friend of mine(who is a very serious paper puncher) purchased a Ruger bolt action in .357 mag.Equipped with a Leupold scope. His is totally amazed at the accuracy of this little rifle.
With the advent of today's ammo, the old .357 mag is a viable cartridge for game up to deer at reasonable ranges.

I second Fordman's recommendation of a Henry in .357. My neighbor got a Big Boy in .45 Colt...beautiful rifle in brass and octagon, almost zero kick. So I went out and bought it's little brother, a Henry Golden Boy .22LR. Very nice slick action, deadly accurate and MADE IN AMERICA with American Walnut stocks.

As far as consolidating ammo, I did that a few years ago. Stocking too many different calibers of ammo was getting out of control. So I narrowed the field, and sold off a few things that I didn't care for. Now it's 12 ga, .45ACP, .30-.06, .223 & .22LR. I will not buy anymore firearms outside of these calibers....makes like easier:thumbsup:

I have found the Marlin 94C in .357 to shoot very well. A previous Desert Eagle in 44Mag was very accurate out to 100m, even with just the 6" barrel. Both cartridges are capable of nice accuracy. But, with poor BC compared to pointy bullets, they have the trajectory of a brick(well, not exatly, but...).

The Glock 17 is, IMHO, the best of the breed. Be a good addition to your collection...
However, get a feel for a 19 as well...

You may be right Roy. I am a big Glock fan and the 17 is for one reason or another is the gun missing from my Glock collection. I have a 19, 21, 22, 23, 26, 30 and 32. The 17 (or 34) will be my next Glock purchase. Or maybe a 20. Just depends on witch deal presents itself first.

BTW....Anyone know how the 17 was named the 17?? The answer is surprising.

I picked up a Rossi .357 lever, 20" barrel for pretty much the same reason, although I almost never carry either around the farm. I can't comment on the quality of Henry's or Marlin's, but I'm very pleased with the quality of the Rossi/Braztech/Taurus/whatever it is. I gone through about 500 rounds of a mix of .38 special/.357 magnum and don't think that I've had any misfires or misfeeds. The accuracy of the rifle is better than mine, and I just love lever guns.

So, in a nutshell, I don't think you're foolish/crazy/silly/anything. Rather, I think you're just on the right track!

Good luck with whatever you choose and take care.
