I have threaded on this subject before but the project got stalled by mama and money.

I have an older JD4020, the one you can't buy a power beyond kit for. Anyway I am going to tap into the hydraulic supply line ahead of the existing control valves and add a new set for my loader and adding a third option so I can run a grapple.

I used to be an electrician so I am no stranger to bending pipe, what kind of tubing should I use for the new hydraulic piping?

I believe most tubing used for hydraulic service is seamless and annealed which relieves the stress from manufacturing process. Around here i purchase the tubing from hydraulic supply houses. They have charts that show pressure ratings vs. wall thickness.

I am in the process of changing the spool valve on my 202 Workbull. I am going from a 2 spool control to a 3 spool. Bought it brand new for $160 taxes in. My third function is going to be for a round bale grab that I am building and I am going to use rubber hydraulic line to run it down the loader. If the line is secured snugly it will be pretty much trouble free and if you do have trouble it is easy to put in a hose mender or change an end. As a Millwright I use a lot of hydraulic hose with "In the Field" replacable ends. Easy to use and easy to repair, especially if you have bends in it.

I am shying away from hose as the pipe will run down the left side of the engine houseing the aft then under the floor of the cab to the right side. I want to run harp tube at least to that side.

Here is a chart I shamelesly stole from Midstate hydraulic hose. It lists the working and burst pressures for hydraulic tubing.

They call for:

"SAE J525 Electric resistant welded low carbon steel tubing meets ANS B93.4 and NFPA STD T3.15.66. Excellent bending and
flaring characteristics."

Check out Parker-Hannifin's Catalog 4300 for information on hydraulic tubing, and how to put ends on it. I'd post a link; but Parker's web site seems to change often enough to make that pointless.
