"*67 , payphone, unlisted number..."

Civilian phones can have a number blocked at the receiving phone. Law enforcement and government phones may or may not be blocked to the incoming call. BUT, the phone company has records of where the call originated to the hot line or LE phone. Get an attorney to sue for harassment, they will probably be able to get the originating phone number under a court order or supeona. Then sue or take to small claims court to recover your lost wages and expenses.

OK I have had something Kind of like this happen to me. You need to ask this clearly to them

"Is falsely reporting a crime not against the law in Florida"

The will have no choice but say ...Yes it is

Then you need to ask what they are doing about these false reports

Chances are you will never have to prove anything to them again

yep.. in a 'innocent until proven guilty society'.. it's odfd to see a sign that says 'YOU ARE IN VIOLATION' when in fact.. the officer had not had a chance to inspect the animals up close.. end result was no violation.. yet I still get the red tag.. :(

That sounds like a case for the ACLU (bane of all until you need them).
As someone mentioned, it sounds like slander. The scarlet letter. Yikes! I would be ticked, too. Hope you can get it resolved.

Why give in to this, what we all know is crap?? IF they ever pursue you further, you could either deny ever seeing any such red sign, or take a higher road & say, "Yes I saw a red sign saying I was in violation. In violation of what?? I knew with absolute certainty that I operate completely within the law & chose to respond accordingly, that is to not respond at all."

What penalties would there be?? You're not breaking the law!

Besides stating that "you're in violation", what did this sign tell you to do?

Maybe I don't have enough info.

by not responding to the sign you violate a county ordinance.

the sign states you must make contact, or you will be subject to penalty including fine and imprisonment, impoundment of property.. etc...

Apparrently you've nevr been onthe bad end of a code enforcement complaint...

Right. It's like evading an officer. Even if you did nothing else wrong, the act of evading the officer gets you in trouble.

Got it. This sign should be white, gray, black, or blue etc., & say "you may be in violation - contact us"

Complete BS that they're making people look bad to the public just because somebody filed a complaint, especially when the officer in this case even knows better already. Are you getting a lawyer??

Actually, there doesn't have to be a sign at all. A simple notice taped to the front door would more than suffice. It seems to me that they deliberately use signs to draw attention.

inmy case they can't get to the door due to the fact that the property is gated.. thus they hang the red sign on my gate, facing the road... :(

Sometimes the BOLD RED signs are justified. My brother lives in a house owned by me, and ONLY enters the house by the rear entrance. Typically he misses any notes attached to the front door, EXCEPT BRIGHT RED ONES. The city places signs on that house pretty regularly, because they send me a certified letter every time. I have to make a trip to the post office to pick it up. The fact that it says you are in violation would tend to tick me off, big time! The next door neighbor is the one calling on him, no question about it, but getting something done about it has been difficult. Biggest problem is my brother is usually in the wrong, unlike Soundguy. However the stakes are higher on Soundguy because of it being animal cruelty instead of not mowing the grass.
We finally got some of the harrassment slowed down by finding out (at least in our minds) who it was, and proceeded to make them toe the line with their own yard. Seems to have worked somewhat, but with my brother's type of violations, they put you on a computer list, which automatically schedules you for a follow up inspection every 6 months. You have to go thru two "clean" inspections to get off their list. One phone call puts you back on it.
The inspectors and people that man the phones always tell you that the calls were anonymous, but we made a call and they required our names (but said it wouldn't be released). Got any good neighbors/friends that wouldn't mind you calling on them to check to see if it is indeed done without names? Especially if they don't have any pets, then they can just say... Yeah, I saw that old dog hanging around, but it wasn't mine and now it wandered off. Figured the "dog catcher" must have picked him up.
