OMG ... I did a search and there sure is alot about oil ... I got tired of reading!!

Heres the question ... I bought a used JD 5520 with 1150 hrs .. it has since its birth had nothing but JD 15W 40 ... do I stay with it or switch to what I use in all my equipment and trucks? Rotella 15W 40

I use which ever oil will perform the best in a given engine at the best price.

Over the years I have used a Delo 15Wx40, JD 0Wx40, and Shell 5Wx40 in the truck. The JD has used either JD 0Wx40 or Shell 5Wx40. The JD 0Wx40 oil used to be cheaper then the Shell 5Wx40 but it was not the last time I buy. Next oil change I might go back to Shell if it is cheaper.

I have never had a problem changing to a different brand of oil.

Later,
Dan

I use both Shell Rotella T and Chevron Delo 400 in my diesels. They are both excellent 'dino' oils and usually can be had for about the same price. I just bought 3 gallons of Delo 400 this morning to do my Dodge Cummins..... spring is coming soon...!!! [ :) ] While I do not mix the two, you can flip a coin which one will be in there next time..... Around here the Wally has the lowest price, and Delo was a few cents cheaper ....

I've run into this question frequently. There is nothing wrong with switching your oil. The Rotella is CJ4 rated and will perform the same in the tractor as your other equipment. The problem from switching comes from using multiple brands. If you use a different brand every oil change your dealing with different additive packages doing different things repeatedly working against each other.

So you want the easy way out of this???? Just any oil and be fine. Better yet go to another oil site and get more/better info.

I worked in a truck dealership, Freightliner, the gube and lube guy use to get requests for a special oil from customers, they paid the same price as bulk, sometimes there would be a couple of quarts left in the pail up to a dozen quarts, every brand, all 15/40, I wanted the pails, I would take them home cut the tops off and, drain the oil into a gas jug.
I have a steel beam with cross pieces in it that the pails sit in and drain over night.
I used it in a pickup, and a friend in his Ford tractor, no problems with either unit.

Run Rotella is a great choice for any money.

you should have no problem switching to another brand of 15w40 as long as it's api rating matches or exceeds that of your machine's needs.
