The 825i has the belt tranny. Some may call it weak, but I don't see the problem with it. And it's not like it's an expensive part that would break on the other tranny's. I have had 3 Gators, a 6x4, 4x2 and my current HPX. In the thousands of hours between them, not one belt has broken. I use my machines, but definitely don't abuse them. I really question how people break these belts, they are not just hauling timber around. Somebody's trying to pull California Redwoods over or something:laughing: Some of the other tranny's definitely have their advantages, but I really wouldn't cross the belt off my list.

The 825i is an excellent machine, largest cargo bed capacity, 50! HP engine, 44MPH. It's a sweet machine. I think you would be extremely pleased with it, not to say you wouldn't with any other UTV.

I have yanked RZR800's out of the mud,pulled loads of dirt in bed,pulled my 300gallon spray full of water,moved my 16ft lowboy trailer around,took it elk hunting in new mexico,haul square bales all the time,pull my 12ft roller on food plot,i can go on and on,it has around 2000hrs on same belt.

I've got a kubota rtv900 and love it! It is used for work mainly but once in a while we go trail riding. it's no speed demon, I have no need for speed. I like the 3 speed hydro and the braking, take your foot off the throttle and you slow down. In our family we have Polaris, Yamaha, a Ggator and others, They are all good machines in there own respect especially Polaris, They really go throught the mud! for me their to fast! I wanted a diesel and something that is geared for work, and a steel bed in back thats why i choose Kubota and besides it starts great in the winter, and its getting about 32 miles per gallon! it's a good proven engine. I have an All Terain forklift at work that is Kubota powered and its one tough engine, it's got around 4000 hours on it and runs like new. I'm sold on my Kubota!. . .John

I think you've got a good idea of what you'd like then. I'd suggest the Deere 825i, on a budget the 625i. Along with the Polaris Rangers, Arctic Cat's, etc, etc.

Go for it! That'll give you the perfect excuse to buy a newer Diesel one in a couple years. Once you go Diesel you never go back.

Actually, that's kind of what I'd like to do on my next go around with all the equipment. I'd like to have everything diesel. That way I have one less of those nasty gas cans lying around. And I don't have to accidentally pour gas into diesel and vice versa

Gas is perfectly fine for a UTV though, not so much a tractor.

I would stay with a gas engine. A diesel is fine but they add to the price. I would get a UTV with fuel injection.

Obviously our personal biases are coming out. As mentioned, any of these mentioned will work out great.

My only experience is with the Polaris Ranger 700. I've really liked the 2 across seating, as someone else said that has turned into a major big big plus for it. The extra width also gives it more stability. With that comes the negative of needing a trailer 6 feet wide to haul the thing - many small utility trailers are 5 feet wide so if you need to haul it at times, consider that too.

But, the few times I'm a passenger on any other UTV, I feel terribly cramped for foot room or seating on the other brands.....

In a cold climate like you & I have, the gas engines seem to work well. My Ranger starts at below zero temps just great - think fuel injection is the key for that.

I remember Gators as the rather slow, practically no suspension machines they used to be. I think the newer breed of Gator will serve you well, they have really ramped up their offerings.
