I stumbled across a trade in a few years ago at work. A friend of mine traded in his '03 7.3 F350 4X4. At the time it had 56,000 miles. It is a super cab long bed with the FX4 package. He traded it that morning, and I bought it that afternoon. When I got home my father stopped by to see it and asked, what are you planning to tow with that? My answer was, pretty much what ever I want to. It now has 108,000 miles on it. I wouldn't sell it for $25,000. I do most of my running around on a little '95 Ranger with a 4 cyl and a 5 speed to save on gas. But I have "Brutus" for the bigger jobs. My plan was to buy it, and keep it the rest of my life. I've never had any major issues with it, and don't expect to. I've seen several of the engines with 500,000 to 750,000 miles on them. We've had a couple with over a million come into the shop. Of course, you can't expect that kind of mileage without some issues, but they are very capable. I try to drive it a least once a week or so, just to keep the fluids stirred up and the batteries in good shape.

That is exactly what I want.

I plan for this truck to last a LONG LONG time!

my 05 Ford (6.0) has tremendous pulling power while hauling my 30' horse trailer....it amazes me how it accelerates uphill. my 94 dodge sure never did that.
You Ford guys never cease to make me laugh!
Wow, your 2005 Ford diesel pulls a trailer better than your old 94 Dodge? Well it's good to know how it compares to a truck 11 years older than it.
It's also amusing how some 6.0l owners will try to convince you that it's a great engine because they have 50k miles with no issues. The fact still stands that hundreds of thousands of other owners have had thousands in repairs. It's still not worth the gamble of "will I get a good one".
You really want Ford, get a 7.3l. IMO they haven't had a good engine since...

i've got 120 flawless engine miles on my 04 f250.. I do like the pep... if it were a 350 drw, right now, I'd probably not have gotten my 99 350 with 7.3... but.. it ain't.. so I did.. :)

Most people like you have probably never driven a 6 leaker. Drive one before you say 7.3s are better. Have fun swapping CPS's all the time and waiting for your PMRs to blow up with the 7.3. Also show me a 7.3 that doesn't have an oil or fuel leak.

i have the 6.0 in mine, and its worked flawless. mine was built on a Wednesday (i hope).

my 05 Ford (6.0) has tremendous pulling power while hauling my 30' horse trailer....it amazes me how it accelerates uphill. my 94 dodge sure never did that.

Guess I got a wednesday one also....maybe they doubled production on wednesdays , to keep up with hundreds of thousands of bad ones??
Granted, i've only got 69K on her, but the majority of those miles has been pulling one of my 2 30' trailers with near max loads. Never been in the shop. I can't compare it with any other truck, cause I've only owned 2 f150's, and 2 f-350's.....and been very pleased with all of em. No complaints.
I'll keep her until I'm able to walk into the ford dealer with cash for that new F450 King Ranch diesel dually....
So maybe i'll be looking at a 2020.....:laughing:

Not only have I driven/towed with plenty of 6.0l's, I've assisted in repairing plenty too!
It's a good engine, when it's working. But one failure can cost as much as the truck did...

I can't see a failure costing me $40K but, I agree some of them have had issues. Delete the egr, rebuild the oil cooler, add a coolant filter, replace the HGs and add ARP studs and it's bullet proof. Also they are very easy to work on. I can have my cab off like in your picture, in 45 minutes.

The fact that the cab has to be removed says something.
A friend who works at Ford told me that Ford had over $5 billion in warranty claims on the 6.0 and the 6.4.

I would take a 7.3 before the other Ford diesels.
There is a good reason why putting a Cummins in a Super Duty has gotten so popular.
