What's with Europeans and plowing?

What's the benefit of a push plow? It seems to me that it's less machinery, less to keep track of if it's all just pulled.

The other thing I notice is that most of the fields shown in these pictures and videos looks like it was plowed this morning already. The soil is pulverized and flows easily. I dare you to drop these plows into some good healthy 4 year old alfalfa. :laughing:

The front plough balances the effective torque on the tractor created by the large "width" of plough at the back.

Also, in competition ploughing, there's a fine balance between the ground you're pulling from, and the density of the ground your're trying to turn over. IF the fields had already been ploughed, you wouldn't get the traction needed - I reckon you'll find that these fields have not been ploughed in advance.

You'll find the last few years a lot of the front ploughs have gone away. Hard on linkages. They were a bit of a rage 5 years ago.

There's a pic of a 8730 with 7 bottoms up there. From plowing with an 8630 last year on 3 bottoms, they are in some light ground! I was struggling in some spots with 3 bottoms although when it was good I could get up to 10 th on the powershift. Couldn't plow the uphill sections in 2wd.
