Good god, what I should of said in my first post here was,,,,

"Foul, double post. 10 min foul time in the box."

Didn't think it would cause a mental break down in the system.

As I have to be up at 4:45am tomorrow, and it is now after midnight, I will be signing off, but I wanted my public apology and clarification to be up long enough for anyone concerned to read. No offense or rudeness was intended to Willl or the administrators of the board for any rules I broke or social mores I did not follow.

no apology required.

I enjoyed the thread, never have seen anything like that. Thanks for posting it. I just posted a thread with a video in Malaysia showing some sort of picker upper being pulled by a Yanmar. I notice there has been 165 views as of now. I believe all this is interesting to Yanmar owners. Not trying to fan a fire, just saying I don't believe it is rule breaking. But then, I'm not the rule maker. :D

Hey let us face it controllers like to control. I too get upset when they get abusive and start to beat up on people who have done NOTHING wrong.

I got an offset vineyard cultivator, that I'm trying to learn more about.
That looks a lot like the Weed Badger that I see advertised all the time in the Farm Bureau's publication. Seems to me it would be ideal for an orchard as well as a vineyard.

I asked my neighbor what he thought and he said they absorb a lot of horsepower so my Yanmars (24 hp and 18 hp) aren't nearly big enough. I think the Weed Badger runs from a PTO hydraulic pump.

I'm still looking for a solution to blackberry bushes and scrub oak trees that grow so close to my apple tree trunks that discing doesn't kill them. I've been using the backhoe to yank them out and often their taproot is as large as my arm, showing that herbicide in the past didn't kill them. This sort of implement looks like it would do a good job of knocking them down.

Are you interested in selling it?

So why did you post it here ?

And why the double post ?
Because we are interested in whatever project he undertakes. A pointer here to his post in the implement forum is exactly what I would hope to find when I read this forum.

It looks much like the WeedBadger, which I had never seen nor heard of before. This machine doesn't work as well as that one seems to show in the videos; mine also looks to require less power. The YM2000 will pull it without significant effort. It is tough to drive, at least in my tight quarters, so all the work is done at very low speeds anyway.

The 3 spikes per plate don't do much other than stir the ground, and if the soil is hard enough that the motor may bog, they just kind of skip across it anyway. It certainly doesn't engage the ground to anything like the degree my 5' tiller does, so the power requirements are fairly minimal. I suspect some cutting edged sweeps would work better for shearing off weed and grass stems. I suspect the 186D will pull it fine too; I'll try to get it mounted up this weekend and test it out. I think I'll try running it at the 1000 RPM setting on the PTO for experimental purposes, possibly at a reduced engine setting. The blades spin slowly relative to forward movement unless the tractor is creeping along.

I'm interested in selling it. It doesn't do me much good, I don't think, since I'm not sure I can reach under the lower branches of the bigger trees with it, even on a shorter machine like my 186. I don't see it working on blackberries. The whisker is very sensitive, and even a single dirt clod will set it off. Anything more substantial than grass or small weeds engages the pull-back. I suppose it would be possible to adjust the tension in the cables for sensitivity, though. I think it would beat itself up bashing away on a woody stem, though. Catching the shoots early would work, but I don't see it being effective on plants much larger than that, at least in current form.
