JDgreen227,

Yes it was replaced with a new apparatus.

jonyyuma,

Totally agree on the pressure - max that i would go is 75psi if that. I'll check that out carefully and slowly when I get it ready later this spring at the Idaho property.

For wildland on 1-1/2" line, you don't use anywhere near that pressure. well, unless you're doing a progressive hoselay uphill and have to overcome head pressure. That's usually 20-60gpm, so friction loss is low. And the nozzles operate properly at lower pressure.

For sturcture you want that 100psi at the nozzle for proper nozzle pattern on a combo nozzle. We have 200' preconnects; for 1-1/2" attack lines that means 150psi at the pump to make up for friction loss; about 24psi/100' of 1-1/2" double jacket hose at 100gpm.

when you used surplus hose, it was still pressure tested etc?

I doubt if you have any one whom wants more than 125lbs on a hose. Plus they will last much longer at 110 psi max...We used anyones surplus hoses on our VFD truck when we first started...Many people cannot handle a hose with over 100 psi on it..

Love the 4th picture. I don't care who you are or how old, everyone loves a fire truck!

I'm jealous too, cool old truck......

Someday I hope to find one.

If you do plan on drafting(filling) from a pond or what not, build yourelf a floating dock of some sort to keep the suction hose/strainer out of the mud and junk. It will really save wear/tear on the old pump.

My FD just bought a new pumper last year and it cost $440,000.

Congrats!

That's really neat! Reminds me of my home town of Ames, Oklahoma. Their first fire engine was an old converted gasoline truck. The first fire they went to was a real doozie! It would have burned itself out in an hour or two, but they managed to keep it going all day. ;)

Wow, just snorted my coffee out my nose and onto the computer screen.
Reminds me of our local VFD when I was a kid. We called them "Foundation Firemen" because all that was left after they got done fighting a fire was the foundation.:D
Idaho2, very nice truck you got there. Gotta love old trucks and especially old fire trucks!

2 years and 363 days I'm done and out to the ranch. This is where (attached pics)the fire apparatus (truck pic) will be with my other red machines.

Beautiful property. Also nice that your new fire truck matches your tractor.

This has been bothering me all day since I read it early this morning. At least those guys were willing to put their time and effort into the community. Instead of criticizing, the rest of the adults should have been joining the department and helping out. Talk is cheap.

The department here has some foundations left too. But then it's a 20-25 minute run to parts of the township...when the state and county don't close some roads and add another 20 minutes to the response.

I think the last couple in our district were in that $500,000 range. Attached is one of first out Ferrara's.

Pretty amazing to see those prices, and then look on Ebay and see older rigs for cheap. And some not so old for relatively cheap...
