Sears Tools That Suck On The Price

Agree 100% that would make sense. I have never had any tool head come loose from the handle yet but if you are concerned about that happening a hole can be drilled and a machine screw and nut added for security. My oldest fork is at least 20 years old (Craftsman) with a wood handle and it shows no sign of loosening.

Just be careful of their pitchforks. ~10 years ago, I bought one of the typical junk pitchforks sold by Dears, HD, Lowes. I was pitching bark mulch from my dumptruck into a landscape bed. Dogs were nearby. Unexpectedly, the steel tine head flew out of the handle, just missing one of the little guys. Would have impaled the dog.

I notice they're all still made the same cheap/dangerous way, head is pushed into a slot in the end of the handle and expected to never come loose. Would be much better if a pin was driven through handle to secure it better.

Wow, you are lucky...I'll keep that in mind...

My update.
Still no respone what so ever from Sears.I sent them the stock numbers and company names as well as easy links to the two saw products. But they seem to just want to ignore the email and question and concern I have as well as the others here.
Our local Sears says they are closing and wthe sign says relocating yet they dont or cant say to where they are re locating...hmmm odd for sure..
Im assuming the other TBN memeber who was going to contact their corperate office hasnt had any responce either..
??

Why would a company going out of business be concerned about your thoughts?

Good Point Gale. very good one.But maybe they will just go to bankruptcy?

and in bankruptcy, might they void all previous warranties? I've knwn of other companies that did that. IE.. any encumberances from date of filing and back were null and void.. :(

Also as in many cases a firm has a web site but nobody actually monitors it. I suspect that the phenomenon is a generation gap thing.
Some firms still are not convinced that E commerce is one way to go.
Most Sears that I have visited barely have enough staff to man the cash registers let alone answer a phone or an Email!

In my daily email from Sears they were promoting tools up to 50% off. For a good looking socket set the price was slashed from $299.99 to $284.99

Almost ordered 10 sets at that kind of sale price. :D

With the same holding company owning K-Mart and Sears and from what I have seen and am seeing in our area I think going the bankrupt route would just be one of the end stages for the company.

Locally they are gone in one town and appliances are about it in a locally owned store (how ever that works). With out much effort locally in the small towns Lowes can gain the applliance and tool business that Sears currently is getting.

As a business owner I just can not see ONE edge that Sears has that will bring much $$$ their way. Being 61 I can remember when Sears rocked but not sure that is the case for the 21 year old group who they will have to win to keep their doors open long term.

Locally retail businesses not within 1/2 mile of back to back WM/Lowes are in serious trouble.

Sears is far away in a defunct (compared to 40 years ago) shopping center with the only real draw is a nice steak house in the parking lot, a declining no name grocery store and Fred's.

My job is to think more about five years from now than today at work. I guess this is the glasses I am wearing when looking at Sears.

Gale, I agree with you. In "our day" Sears was a reliable place to shop, and if they didn't have it in stock, you could look through the catalog and find what you wanted. Sears could get it to you in short order. Today, with Amazon.com, Best Buy, Lowes, HD and WalMart/Target, there's not much loyalty to a store that's out of the way, in a bad area of town, or simply not convenient to get to. As you said, the "now generation" will be the shoppers with money to spend in 5 to 10 years and without their loyalty to a brand, Sears will most likely meet their demise.

Shenanigans like these "remarketed" Harbor Freight tools at outrageous prices, lessening quality of products, lack of service in outmoded stores and a perception from many customers of lessened corporate viability, it's only a matter of time for Sears. At this point, I don't think they could do much to turn around their doom.

I think Soundguy may be correct about that, about 3 years ago I was considering buying a 17 inch Compaq laptop from Circuit City, the salesguy offered to make me a real deal on the extended warranty for an additional 3 years, I asked him how that warranty would work in the case CC went bankrupt and closed down, he waffled around for a moment then came right out and said "you probably will not have any coverage after the manufacturers warranty expires".

I have a LOT of tools of all types that have Craftsman warranties, if Sears goes under I assume my tool warranties are gone too. And there isn't much I can do about that.
