Oil changing funnel for us Deutz owners

If you have a diesel PT (and maybe this is an issue with the gas versions) when you change oil you spill in the tub, even if you make a custom funnel.

just saw this at an airplane supply store and am thinking hard about the purchase.

google oil drain valve I just ordered one for my van (learners permit = damaged oil pan) the one I am getting has a nipple on it that allows for a hose to be slipped on to it , essentially a ball valve with a locking handle and drain plug threads on it I would be cautious of the phenolic oil drain valves my BIL broke his off and locked up his engine but the brass ones come with a lifetime warranty when used during ''normal circumstances''

Sorry about the oil pan. Amazing how curbs don't count as obstacles when learning to drive.

As for the hose, saddly won't work on my PT. I can't get it in without binding. I cut a funnel apart but it works soo poorly I might as well just let it all pour into the pan. Probably going to part with $9 to see if this item will work.

I have the brass shutoff valve like Washita is talking about installed on my PT. Surprisingly, even spring loaded, it has opened - kind of scary. It happened twice. I had left the hose on but curled up which let me see that it had vibrated open occasionally. I now leave the hose one (connected with hose clamp) and a hose clamp on the end. Next oil change, I hope to replace it with a ball valve and plug the end of the ball valve. I will then replace the plug with a hose barb when i need to drain the oil.

I also have the large form-a-funnel for the hydraulic oil change. It can be handy.

Can you put a hole in the pan under where the drain is and bolt on an inspection plate to keep it closed during operations?

I personally would prefer not to because it is just something to catch (bolt or screw head) as you are sliding over logs etc. The Ball Valve (with handle removed maybe) will work well as long as it is also plugged for safety.

after reading the post about the valve vibrating open I think a ''safety wire'' or zip tie would be a wise investment to prevent the valve from opening, good to have feedback (unbiased) about the oil drain valve

Remember that the PT has no suspension. I suspect it is MUCH less likely to happen on a car etc.

I have to say that I am very happy with the top to a vitamin container, with a relatively wide mouth. I took the lid off, and cut a chair back type scallop about two inches down. This means it is taller than the oil plug to catch the oil spraying out.

I loosen the oil drain with a wrench, stop, put the plastic jar top under it, where it is high enough to touch the underside of the oil pan, and about an inch higher than the oil plug. I then unscrew the oil plug by hand the last few turns, pull it out of the, and the oil pours into the funnel, and down and out the bottom into my waiting oil change pan.

I don't spill any oil in the tub in the process.
