Carnaval Cruise

I'm confused on what to wear at the formal dinners. I'm told jeans are not allowed. Is this true? Do you wear Khaki's? Slacks? I hate the idea of packing a bunch of clothes just to eat a meal, but will if that's what's required.

Do the guys wear ties? Jackets?

Thanks,
Eddie

You can go more 'relaxed' on Carnival vs the other cruise lines..

We just took our 5th Carnival cruise and for the formal nights anymore I wear Khakis, collared shirt and tie.. I started out wearing a sports jacket on the first few cruised, but realized I would not be out of place without it..

For the other nights I normally wear Khakis and a polo shirt.. I may even wear jean (non holes) if i feel like it..

We have been on two Princess Cruises - and formal nights there are dressier..

Thank you. I have a few pairs of Khaki pants and dress shirts. I think that I'll leave the sports coat at home and just bring a few ties. I hate to pack very much and when I go back packing, I don't even bring extra clothes to save weight.

Eddie - you'll be fine with khakis and dress shirt/tie. Cruiseline dress has become less formal over the last several years... especially on "formal" nights. I've taken 9 cruises over the last 11 years... all on Royal Caribbean. The first one in 2002, I'd say 85% of the men wore a tux on formal nights. The last one in Feb of this year, I would say 2% in tux, 85% in suit or sportcoat and tie, and the rest in khakis and dress shirt.

The only thing I would add is that sometimes the women really enjoy getting dressed up, and they like their significant other to do the same. I'm blessed with my current "significant other" being more casual like me... day to day we are jeans and t-shirt types, and enjoy things like tractors and shooting guns, definitely not the black tie crowd, lol. I know that you have a good feel for your traveling partner and what she wants, but just thought I would throw out the notion that if she is into the "dress up formal night", you might want to bend a little and go ahead and pack that sportcoat!

All of the Gulf Coast Mexican ports that the cruise ships visit are considered safe. This includes Cozumel, Costa Maya, Progresso, and Cancun.

Many people feel safer in Cozumel than in most cities in their own state. The worst crime there is shops overpricing jewelry items to tourists.

I would have no idea what to wear on a cruise, having never been on one. I'd love to go on one, if it paid enough. But they'd have to pay me instead of the other way around. But today I did get an e-mail with a picture of the formal footwear for ladies on Italian cruise ships.

couple other suggestions..

Bring way more casual t-shirts than you think you will need. I never seem to bring enough..

Also bring enough underwear to take 2 showers per day - on our first cruise (3 night) i was out of undies on the second day LOL

Most of all the ships also have self service laundry centers - its about $3 per wash or dry cycle (you get quarters from the front desk).. Especially when we fly to the port we plan on doing laundry at least 2x per trip.. that means you only have to bring 1/3 of the clothes

I only bring a couple of T-shirts because I usually buy souvenir shirts in each port. Especially in Cozumel where you can get about 6 nice shirts for under $20.

Thanks. I forgot that I do this on vacation all the time. Obviously it's been too long since I've been on vacation!!!!!
