I love 7018, had a very long relationship with it!

Well minor flaws then.. restrike is harder, runs better when hot. etc..
but I still love it, don't get me wrong. These are minor things, compared to the superb welds, strength, etc..It is still my go to rod.

Auto darkening welding helmet was probably the one thing that made the biggest improvement in my welding.

I am self taught; so, I read a lot, ask a bunch of questions, watch quite a bit of online instructional videos, and use this forum A LOT.

I also don't do welding on critical components of trailers or anything else that if it lets loose would cause harm to the operator or others around or on the road. I leave that to the pros still.

Very, very seldom do I have any problems starting 7018. Easy for me to say, I'm sure the first rod I ever burned in welding school was 6010, but from then on it was a steady diet of 7018, until wire feeders came out. Then I'd go years without touching an electrode.

That's an awful wide lookin weld there... how thick is that pipe sidewall?

:laughing: Kind of hard to judge the size of any of it without a reference. The zoom on it had me thinking it was some big pipe. haha Thats an awesome bead :thumbsup:

I too am a fan of 7018 welding, reverse polarity DC welding. I even loved it so much i broke down and bought a rod oven to take care of my nice little rods.

Everyday is the weekend to me.

I' am a hack compared to a lot of weldors.

In my opinion you never stop learning, when it comes to welding.
