Tractor
Cat 272c with tush Hogg mulcher and many other attachments. 50 hp tractor with shredder.
I have seen a few out on the used market. It is a large wheel loader similar to a Barko 930 or 937. It is made by Cat and called a Magnum. It is Cats version of a large wheel carrier. I didn't know if anybody had any pros or cons about the machine.

Post some pics. I am pretty sure I know what your talking about. It is a customer made mulcher based on a Cat loader by a company called Magnum. Did not build that many and from reports had relaibility issue's. If it is what I described SSP&M demo'ed on and had issues as well. Seems like a good idea just didn't get very far.

Robbie thanks for the reply. There are two cat magnum posted on machinery trader under forestry then under cat. They seem cheap in price compared to other used wheeled carriers. The problem I have is I run a skidsteer with fecon head currently, but I have a lead on a potential larger job than would be feasible for the skid steer. I have already been mulching for the custmer for a month.I don't want to commit to a new larger carrier, but I think I could make a used one work for me. Any suggestions. I am on a budget of of 100k to 125 k. My usual work is @ 5 to 10 acre tracts. I have lost work in the past not having a larger machine.

Here is my .02 cents. I gather by your name you are in Tx. Just so happens Tx. has the highest concentration of mulchers, big ones.. So there will always be a larger machine that can do a said job faster than whatever you bring, and unfortunately cheaper. So here's two ways to look at it. I would either decide what HP or type of machine you want. IE. wheel loader, tracked, and what hp. What conditions are you mainly going to be in? East Tx in swamp and mud or West dry flat ground. Study your comptiton. Tracked high hp machine's in east and wheeled lighter machines in west Tx. If you have a niche stay there, maybe buy a second skid steer and upgrade to a higher production head. Also remember you have to move this new machine. Larger machines mean larger trucks. A great source is Rowmec in Conroe Tx. Tell them I sent you and go over the above criteria. You can always use the big boys if you get a larger job, I have someone who can help in that aspect as well. See what you think.

I spoke to the guys at Rowmec that Robbie recommended. They have rentals of the large machines.

I spoke to Bret Chapman at Rowmec a few months back. (936) 539 5488. He was very knowledgeable and understood what mulching was all about. I learned quite a bit, too.
