Diesel fuel storage tank

I picked up a 330 gallon plastic tote for 75 bucks. Started welding up a stand for it. After I finish it, I'm going to figure out fittings for it. Might work on fittings before I finish the stand.

Im not sure. i was thinking about getting the tote high enough and letting gravity do its thing.

I just picked up four 55 gal metal drums. They had canola oil in, so even if a little bit is left over, it will burn nicely with the diesel. I paid 15 bucks apiece and they are nice drums. I also picked up four blue plastic ones, but those are going to be for storage of food and dry goods in the root cellar. That's all I could haul at once. I'm sure I'll be back for more.

I put a board across the top of the tote and mounted the pump on it. I sealed between the board and the top of the tote below it. See my photo above in post #42 in this thread.

It works fine.

I always loosen the cap when I pump to let air in. One of these days I'm going to mount a PVC valve on the top to let air in.

This I what I came up with for a stand. I strapped the tote down. Just to be safe. Still need to get the fittings filter and hose hooked up and fuel in it.

Well after all of the good ideas that all of you came up with I ended up going out and getting a 30 gallon fuel caddy with the pump and wheels. These are not cheepest way to go but suited my needs! I just don't use all that much fuel per year, and I liked the idea of having the wheels to move it around the garage which is where it will always be is inside, but if I need it to go out and about to a different area where I may take the tractor then I can take it pretty easy. The hardest part about it is the removing it from the truck after I take it and refill it, but that just intails having my son hold on to it on the forks to ballance it which I could do easy enough with a strap if he is busy.

But in any event this has been fun I really didn't think that there would have been this many responces to something this simple. It just goes to show the caliber of good people on TBN. I can't wait to think up my next issue to see how many ideas I get. Wow I just realized.......I need a life boy!

keep in mind if you haul diesel fuel your self in a containner over 100 gallons you will need
a hazmat endorsement by federal law. a lot of farmers, construction companies when useing off road diesel fuel save on the taxes but dont think when they go fill up there 250 drums.

most totes have a 3 inch hole. you can get a hex reducer from a 3 inch that will reduce to a two inch most pumps are 2 inch male fittings.

They will deliver 100 to 150 or more gallons free so why take a 250 gallon container to get it filled ?
