The two I know with Leafs are very happy

They are both Doctors and can drive any car they want... both previously had high end German vehicles.

To be fair... they are also early adopters... they installed solar at home and at their offices...

So for them, it has been a win/win

Tax Incentives

Reduced/Eliminated Fuel Costs

"Free" electricity at home and at work from the excess of their solar electricity production.

Able to solo drive the commuter lane and avoid bridge tolls.

Get bragging rights at the Scrub Sinks with the other Docs

And be part of a Study Group on viability of the Leaf...

I'm not a big green person or a fan of electrics. To be fair, I have no problem with hybrids. I drove my inlaws Camry hybrid, and I liked it. I tried to detect when it was running electric or gas, and I couldn't tell. The brakes felt very normal to me. It gets great mileage for being what I would call a larger to mid size car.

I can understand why people wouldn't want to buy electrics or a hybrid, but why bad mouth them as a rule? Our government is less short sited than you think. If they don't promote this kind of technology, wind power, solar etc. we will never move forward.

The question many ask is if, wind power, solar etc. really moving forward? And why switch, oil is a natural product of the earth and ground. Thousands of years of resources yet to be used. Why change? Nothing compares to oil. Even algae so called technology is just making oil in faster process than that of nature.

I see big SUV's with hitches every time we go somewhere without a speck of rust in the hitch receiver, why buy something with a towing package, that gets pretty crappy mileage and never tow anything?

I see SUV's with no rust on their hitches in accidents with small cars often and I have never seen a small car win in and accident with the SUV and the clean hitch.

I'll keep my clean hitch, pay through the nose for my fuel, and KEEP both my legs in a head on accident with all the unlicensed illegal aliens driving around.

Hey what od we have here...a white pick up truck ...does it have a hitch. I know it doesn't have a scratch on it.

I do not think anyone in government is short sighted. They are always looking to be reelected no matter how far off. What should promote a product is the product itself. If you liked your neighbors flat screen tv, you bought one. If you like an all electric car and you want one, go buy it. I know I would never spend 40G 's to get 10G's back . So for me it is no incentive at all. It should move forward on its own merit or not.

Because you would have to be sniffing glue or a marketer for Exxon to believe that there are thousands of years of dinofuel resources yet to be used. I don't know if we have a realistic 25 or 250 years supply of accessible oil based fuel still available but frankly I'd rather use something renewable anyway. Rather use the oil to make plastics than piss it away in an over powered pickup driving to the grocery store.

an over powered pickup driving to the grocery store.

Also "oversized". I remember when no pickup was larger than the now defunct Dodge Dakota. Now you have to be 8'2 just to be able to reach for something that's in the bed. They should rename the vehicle from "pick up" to "rig up" because you need some type of crane to get at stuff. "I have a 2012 Ford F250 rig up." Hmm, I think it works.

And in a head-on with a big truck you'll be just as dead, bigot or not.

Electric cars are all well and good. You plug them in and recharge. It appears very green but, in fact, the electricity the charges the car comes from polluting power plants so in actuality, an electric car isn't green at all.

It's just a remote, removed polluter...................:D

..........tree huggers can't figure that out, neither can the current administration.

Why don't you dig out a scientific analysis that documents your point. The face validity of your assertion is poor but I'm willing to listen if you can back it up. In God we trust, all others must show data.

Try the link from my post earlier in the thread:
An interesting paper from the "18th International Symposium Transport and Air Pollution, Session 3: Electro and Hybrid Vehicles"
http://www.ifeu.org/verkehrundumwel... Electric vehicles (TAP conference paper).pdf
Per the paper, depending on where your power comes from, a plug in hybrid can have as much or more "Life cycle greenhouse gas emissions" as an efficient diesel car. So, the elephant in the room is where the power that charges your plugin hybrid comes from.
